Has anyone done mosaic on galvanized containers?

I thought I would ask before I attempt yet one other project.

I have 2 old vintage galvanized metal containers in the yard that look great, junky as they be, but have thought of doing a mosaic on one or the other and want to be sure it will hold up ok in the outdoors.

I have done a metal newer not vintage galvanized item that sits on the porch, semi covered and never had a problem with it. Just wanted your opinion. Also it will do ok in the outdoors. Any photos? Thanks

I've been mosaicing small galvanized buckets filled with sand for my smoker friends (think elegant butt cans).

As long at the metal doesn't flex you should be okay.

Oh my goodness mosaicwench1, now that sound very classy and so unique. You should market them to smokers. I will give it thought, as the container I am thinking of has a ding here and one in the back. If I can hammer it out from the inside, I might try it!!

totally awesome!! it totally works!! keep an eye on stuff and your fine!! use every single container you can find!! LOL i've used the 5 gal buckets you can get for free at walmart and them kinda places if you ask at the bakery. and them big butter tubs, if its bigger i used them!! LOL its way to awesome!! and fun!! i can't go on enough about the roots on them!! OMGoodness!! they are HUGE!!! better than at the store!! **dreaming it was here already!!** LOL ~Medo who's just slightly goofy!! LOL

WEll Like I said I hope they Grow big. I hear they like lots of water so I hope planting them in the ground in a container will help keep hold better! As far as the frost goes they haven't started to sprout yet so I think they'll be OK! Will see...Thanks for the info....Wayne

I know of one person I met in another forum a few years ago who took a picture of looking out her mother's back door, and turned it into a mosaic in her tub surround. Unfortunately, I can't find the pictures, and I did a search on that forum, and couldn't find them there, either, so you have to take my word for it-- it really was beautiful.

Thanks everyone. I am going with anitamo's suggestion of using precut cardboard. Actually I could not find large sheets of cardboard to purchase and did not want to use random cardboard boxes laying around the garage (I have 15 drawers to line so want everything to be uniform using identical materials)...so I bought 4 large sturdy white posterboards from the local office supply store. I am going to cut them to fit the bottom of the drawers and simply wrap the wallpaper around the cardboard pieces and tape on the underside. My wallpaper IS pre-pasted. I definitely don't want any residue or paste to rub off on these brand new bathroom cabinets :) There will not be any clothing or linens going in these cabinets...it will be toiletries most likely stored in clear plastic/acrylic containers within the drawers. I just thought the wallpaper pattern would look pretty on the bottom of the drawers as well as protect them from spills, dust, etc. This post was edited by nutmegxo on Mon, Mar 11, 13 at 16:59
