Do you like this Floor Lamp?

I am looking for a floor lamp. The most important concern is being child proof which I have yet to find. Secondly looks. Can you help with that? Do you like this lamp or do you know of one similar that you like better or know to be made very well. This lamp is from Restoration Hardware.

Well -- don't laugh -- but I would recommend your local Big Lots stores - which are carrying (and now have on sale!) Jennifer Farrell lamps, accessories and even furniture etc.

I bought my two end table lamps -- and the matching standing lamp for our living room. Love them -- and they certainly seem to stand up well too!

After reading the various threads and looking at the pics, I'm sold for the basement but we're also considering it throughout the first floor. I'm concerned about resale (though it's would be decades away). The homes in our neighborhood are selling for $700,000+, and the expectation of course is high end everything. I'm considering putting this in the main living area too due to the ease of care and who knows what I'll like in 10 years? Our last home we had extensive use of hardwood. I loved the look but the constant worry, and no shoe policy was unpleasant. I want a house that we can live in. For as cheap as this stuff is, we couldn't even have the floors refinished, for what this stuff costs new. We currently have hardwood in the front foyer, front bath, dinette, kitchen, and laundry room (I wouldn't say the previous owner made a wise move on that decision). With all the remodeling though, much of the wood will be trashed anyway, so it's like we'd be starting from scratch. Are we crazy to even consider vinyl (even for a decade) when we can afford the real thing (installation and all), when the expectation is high end? It's only my husband, myself, and a little dog on a daily basis.

Patricia, no. The place emailed me and said they wanted to set up an interview. So I drove 20+ miles to get there and when I arrived I found a room full of people. They were all there for an "interview." Well, it turns out this place is just looking for people to become independent agents - they train you but somehow you have to come up with the cash to get licensed. You have to get your own clients. The insurance is not sold to the companies but to individuals within a company. It does sound like a good deal for people because if you are injured and cannot work, Aflac pays you cash for your rent, car payment, etc. It does not pay any medical bills. I wanted a job not to start my own business. In fact, once the sales guys finally came to the point after a 2 hour power point presentation, and they took one guy out in the hall for the "interview" the rest of us all stood up and walked out in mass. Each of us had thought it was a real job, a real interview, not a sales pitch. The lamp is on sale for $39.95 - shipping would add an extra $10 and tax, of course. Now the store may not have it. Maybe I will call first and save myself the trip if it is not in the store. I have to go to Scottsdale today anyway - eye doctor appt.

I've had this oil rubbed bronze one from Lowes, for a few years. I keep it in the corner between my sofa and my love seat, as each of those have a small table on the opposite ends, that can be used to set down a glass, t.v. remote or phone. Normally the lamp is just used for regular lighting, but I when I want to read, I sit on the end cushion of either the love seat or sofa that is near the lamp, and just extend the arm out in my direction, which gives me perfect reading light. http://www.lowes.com/pd_216520-56253-JS1-2783___?productId=50088286&pl=1&Ntt=swing+arm+floor+lamp#img

Thanks for the input that helps with the decision!

Teacats, we have a Big Lots close by so I think I will check those out first as even "on sale" this one is expensive. But I am on about my 5th one from Target & figured maybe I need to buy a better quality lamp to hold up to the kids. Don't know if you realize how correct your terminolgy of "standing up well" is. Mine always seem to have trouble with that feature and stand up diagonally after a couple months!

If you live in an area where there's Craigslist nearby, you may want to check that also. They often have some vintage ones that may be built stronger.

I'm with teacats! Check out the JF collection at Big Lots~not your usual BL stuff. I think there are two different styles of floorlamps, and both very substantial~I don't like fragile looking floorlamps. Consignment stores are also worth checking out.

Not sure what your decor style is like, but we just got this one from RH and love it. The tripod makes it look like it's standing straight even on our uneven floors (and has already withstood many bumps from small children).

Just took a pic of it in our room.

Also wanted to say that all the lighting in this room is from RH and we have been so pleased with the quality of the product and packaging when shipped.

Personally I don't think it is real special. Since you are thinking of buying it from RH your paying a considerable amount. Why not go to an antique shop where you may find one with gorgeous marble on the bottom. Of course you may like the simple lines of the RH one.
