Floors Lamps That Really Stand Up
As a decorator with somewhat of a split personality, maximalist one day and minimalist the next, floor lamps are a popular, only-in-my-head, rarely-in-the-house debate. Choose the right one for your sparsely furnished room, and it becomes an illuminated, sculptural work of art. Choose the wrong one in an already busy space and congratulations, you've dropped last week's paycheck on pricey clutter that lights up.
Whether nested in a corner or standing proud in the center of a room, here are some excellent examples of floor lamps sure to stand the test of time:

Remember when 1970's-era, over-the-sofa arc lamps had a resurgence back in 2003-2004? During this time, loads of silly, little plastic and stainless wannabes made their way into dozens of retail stores—then disappeared a year later. It's probably because the ones that seem to stand the test of time are usually solid metal with incredible finishes: sprayed paint, polished chrome or satin brass. This Rowe Floor Lamp is the perfect example of one that will just always have that "it" factor. Kinda like a 75-watt Lady Gaga.
While this mid-century pedestal base style tucks nicely in a corner without taking over the room, it's also an affordable option (a cool $290 from Premiere Luminaire). I'd be scared as hell to see the price tag on the original Italian models found in high-end showrooms.
Same thing here.
The Noon Read Floor Lamp from usona is a perfect example of how the right sculptural floor lamp can totally finish off a chic yet sparse space. Notice how this baby is totally gorgeous and all but it doesn't scream "LOOK AT ME, I'M THE FLOOR LAMP, PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE SOFA OR ARMCHAIR; THEY'RE YESTERDAY'S NEWS."?
Outdoor floor lamps like the Bag Outdoor Floor Lamp are becoming more abundant in designer showrooms each year. With the popularity of outdoor rooms escalating as weather patterns become more and more unpredictable, it's likely we'll all have use for them sooner or later. I'd be cool dropping some clams on these; they truly make an outdoor area feel more like a room.
The classic chrome Arco Floor Lamp often seen over sofas works beautifully hovering over sleepy noggins. Perhaps if Carol Ann had one of these in her room, the Poltergeists would have left her the hell alone.
Notice how the black finish on Ligne Roset's Bul Floor Lamp not only adds another layer of visual interest here but it also helps delineate the seating area from the rest of the open room.
Excuse me now as I try to go sell just about anything I can to save up for those dreamy outdoor floor lamps. If I start now, I can afford one by Christmas 2020.

from usona, and her shades have delicious gold lining. She's is a perfect example of form meets function. In fact, her classic form is so strong, who the hell cares that she's also a functioning light source?
