Looking for ieas for sophisticated lavender and green girls' room

I'm hoping someone can give me some good ideas for decorating my daughters' room. We are wanting to, at least loosely, design it around one of our favorite books, "The ordinary princess", by M.M. Kaye (Her name is Amethyst, there is a poem in the book, I think it's from an old song? "Lavender's blue, rosemary's green, when you are King, I shall be Queen." Great book! :-)

Anyway, we're wanting to somehow involve these themes, but so often lavender ends up looking very little-girl-ish. And we have several ages all sharing the room, and I'd like it to age well. (They are 11, 7, and 2).

It's not a huge room...has sloped gambrel ceilings on one side, with 2 dormer windows with a window seat in each one.

I love purple in ALL its forms, and green goes so lovely with it. I know you said sophisticated, but don't know if you meant more modern, or just not girly.

(This is all of PB Teens girls' rooms, and many of them aren't girly. None are necessarily the colors you want, BUT many use complementary colors which would be easy to change out to lavender/green.

Those are my all-time favorite colors. I wouldn't worry about the "little girl aspect" particularly if a two year old is/will be in the room. I would pick out things that please you and make you happy.
I do think, however, you should stay away from pastels. Go deeper with the colors: periwinkle and medium leaf green, for instance. These are timeless and will accommodate all ages more than the pastels.

With my children I've found that they tend to focus on wanting a particular wall color, but have difficulty envisioning the entire look and how one choice (bedding) impacts another (wall color). What has worked for me is to show them pictures until we choose an inspiration room. Pottery Barn Kids and Teen are a great source and they even list their wall colors on the website. I did a black&white & turquoise room for my older DD about 4-years ago and it still works. It's a classic look as is B&W & pink. I agree you can go many different ways with it; a Parisian theme or fun and bold. I try to work in the bolder colors with easy to change accents like pillows, etc. My DD turned 18 yesterday and has the B&W dotted bedding; but a friend of mine used that same bedding for her then 9-year-old and paired it up with pink walls and fluffy pink pillows. If you put the black in the bedding then your DD may agree to not doing the black accent wall (which I would try to discourage). If you have hardwood floors, then a fun and colorful rug is another place to bring in color. If your DD wants more black in her room, add in decorative black frames. Show her how to use black accents without painting the wall black.

I LOVE green. I have had it in my last two apartments (same color - BM Stem Green) and now in my house. My current shade is not something I would have ever chosen, but a colorist suggested it to go with the other elements in the room and now I know why - it looks beautiful. In answer to the drugs question, yes. My drug of choice in summer is a really nice inexpensive Torrontes from Argentina, $8.99 in the wine department at the Kroger grocery store. In answer to your paint color question, to give the room a more masculine air, set it apart from the rest of your house (a real psychological advantage for a husband's lair), work with your creamy trim color, make that wonderful poster stand out, and reduce the perception of yellow in your oak furniture (and by the bye, painting the furniture would be a gargantuan effort compared with just repainting the walls), choose a rich golden brown. There's "Richmond Gold" (HC-41) from the BMoore Historical group...or Sherwin Williams "Chamois" (SW6131) or "Bosc Pear" (SW6390). There are a couple of the Affinity colors in the BMoore Aura line, too, but I don't have the chips at hand. (I like those because they actually can cover in one coat.) The sheers would soften it, and the warm colors and white linens and black iron and pottery and basketry of traditional French country design would work with it. The blues in the poster will jump out on that background, which will warm your husband's heart. (My DH says that no American man of any age has anything he first chose for himself, because whatever his first wife didn't take, his second wife pitched out..)

Here's the latest. I love the Dior Gray and Pigeon Gray. Thanks anntique for that photo of the room. I was leaning towards the darker of the two, the Dior Gray, but I'm worried it might be too dark (I want to use it on the walls that are now lighter gray in the photos) and put the pigeon gray on the fireplace wall. But after seeing that photo, I wonder if I should go with pigeon all over and dior on the fireplace wall, and then in the foyer. Too many decisions and not enough daylight time at home to decide. I'm worried that the darker walls will make the room(s) look too long and narrow. But I love the way the floor lamp next to the green chair shines with the Dior gray behind it. As you can tell, I'm not afraid of dark colors, but I don't want to turn the place into a cave either. I did investigate getting a sample of the pewter mug at 1/2 strength, but there are no samples in Pitts. Paint, so I would have to fork over $22 for a sample. I think that the 2 colors I'm working with are really nice. I just don't know how to use them. Regarding the fireplace, it's real. Although it is only gas and even though it has a blower, it has a label that does say "for decorative purposes only"....no wonder why it makes the room colder. We have actually turned out the pilot light on it and don't even use it. We might replace the insert with something that is more efficient. As we are approaching the empty nest stage, it would be nice to be able to just warm up that room after work and not the entire house. I have the mirror there because the fireplace is extremely hideous and I just can't look at the yellow brass one more second. I think we are going to paint it with high heat paint so it just "goes away", but we'll see, maybe it WILL just go away and be replaced! I posted yesterday in a separate thread about the fireplace wall--If I do the lighter color see that Julianna Moore link above, does anybody thnk I should then paint the fireplace a darker gray to contrast? Maybe the white would look good. I appreciate all the help you guys are giving me on this. Thanks

I would go to Walmart, they have really cute bedding. The comforter is furry or sueded (sorry can't recall which), then they had really cute throws. I wanted my daughter to get it but she ended up with the brown version. We went to Marshalls, they had really nice fur throws in that purple, they also had a green & gray.

If you are looking for dotted sheets, Target has them for 1/2 the price of pottery barn

I'm not sure what you mean by sophisticated either, but I adore this lavander and green preppy argyle quilt! I could see a whole room built around it! :)

I don't have any good finished pictures of my DD's room...but the wall color is gorgeous. It's BM Piano Concert and it's a calm, subtle lavender.

HereÂs a link to a painting with a lavender background (that leans more toward the color amethyst rather than blue)Âand it seemed to hint at the poem you mentioned with its princess crown. I also found the diamond background pattern kind of inspiring and could envision using that in perhaps a bedskirt or curtain.

Or you might consider toile in either lavender or green since itÂs rather timeless and can be paired with stripes or checks for a warm yet sophisticated look that could still work with children.

thanks plucky...the trim is SW Crisp Linen. It's a beautifully rich yellowish cream--I think it turned out so good.

purple bedding it's sueded I believe. The throw was a lighter purple. See if your walmart has it in stock, I see it says internet only, and I'm not sure this is the exact color I saw, didn't look berry, looked more purple.
