Windows 8 Version: Anybody Else Having Trouble Learning It????
Comments (15)It's unfortunate that they decided that they decided to make it favor a touch screen environment. I do a lot of work on my desktop. I can just get more work done on it than the laptop. My last computer had a touch screen, and I almost never used the feature. It was just really inconvenient to switch between that and using the keyboard. I was helping someone last weekend try to do something on her new computer with Windows 8 and we were both frustrated trying to figure out where things were. We finally had to switch to the new Office at work. They had to bring consultants in for 2 days of training on the differences so that we could get back to actually doing work. I just don't understand the logic of taking a program that people know well enough to use in their sleep and changing it so dramatically that it almost brings their productive output to a halt. I just see that Microsoft made more money, and our company lost money. There's no great improvement to the software that translates into time savings or improved output on our side. I have other devices with touch screens and love them, but for cranking out data and text, it's not the way to go. Sorry, rant over....See Moreanybody make your own windows?
Comments (4)I think you will learn lots by making your windows work for you and your home. Leave storms up while you remove and work on windows. I have some windows out as I write and keep the storms up until I get the windows replaced in the openings. I tried using plastic last year and had a bat move into the dining room. Strip, prime, reglaze and paint windows before you install them. Start working in a less obvious part of the house because your skills will improve with each window! I would also get bids from local carpenters to check costs to have them modify difficult windows. I helped a friend remove a broken upper sash and take it to a local, Coyle, lumberyard. The window frame was broken. They quoted a price of about $150 to rebuild a new sash to replicate the old one. I think that was a very reasonable price as we could replace glass and reinstall the window ourselves. Because she had no storms on that window, she cut rigid styrofoam and filled the opening until we can replace the window. I know you'll have lots of questions that others are far more qualified to answer. Please invest about $10 in a pair of thick leather gloves at a hardware store and wear safety glasses while you work. I'll be here for moral support! Comments (6)The problem I see with blinds that are sealed between the glass with no access to service them is that being a mechanical operation to raise and lower them, what do you do when something breaks. You end up replacing at least the sash if not the whole window to fix the blinds. Where in the Pella windows the hinge panel opens offering access to the blinds or shades making them much easier to service....See MoreJust had my bedroom repainted and am having serious doubts
Comments (12)I used a similar color, Glidden Silver Cloud. Mine is a bit more grey than blue, though. It was shocking at first, as the room was originally antique white, with a very dark merlot accent wall. The new paint felt very pastel (which I don't like) at first. I hung charcoal grey linen curtains with white sheers, tufted chairs in front of the fireplace in the same charcoal linen, a white Matelasse on the bed with a white/grey duvet folded at the foot. I added pops of color with turquoise velvet pillows and art above the bed that included the silver blue wall color, charcoal curtain color, and turquoise. Now, I love it....See Morewindowgal
