What kind of window around shower/tub?

We will have two bathrooms where there will be a window in the shower/tub enclosure. The windows are approx 18 inches in height and placed high on the wall so as to minimize amount of water hitting the sill.

What inside material for the window would you recommend? Wood? Vinyl? Fiberglass? A Norco window salesperson recommended using their wood interior window; they said all their high-end builders used it. I kinda wondered about that. If it matters, we will have alum clad ext/wood int windows throughout the rest of the house.

Also, if you have specific brands and lines to recommend for the bathroom windows, I would like to hear that also.

When it comes to moisture, the vinyl and fiberglass will perform better. Wood, if not finished properly, can be ruined by constant exposure to water. That being said, if you get a factory finished interior, usually white, or your painter/finish person knows how to properly paint/stain a window in a high moisture area, the wood will be fine.
I'd get this window to match the rest of the house, and check on a factory finish.
Also, being in the tub area, in many parts of the country, will require tempered glass. Check with your local building inspector for your requirements.

I would recommend a vinyl window in the tub area. All components are moisture resitant with proper flashing and moisture proof inside trim, such as tile,corian, or solid vinyl,will last a long time. I have a vinyl window in my bathtub enclosure that was installed 5 years ago and have not had any problems.

If your floor/joists can support one, cast iron is great. No flexing (tub floor), retains heat better, and more durable (won't crack). We installed two cast iron tubs (Toto 1525's) in two bathrooms, and a cast iron shower receptor/pan (Kohler) in the guest bathroom. Very happy we stuck to guns on those.

Wow, thanks bumble doodle! Tt is great to know that the tub works well as a shower. We are tall too--at least most of us (two of my teenage daughters are twins and one is 5'2" and the other is 5'10", so maybe the short one complains a bit but that's ok, since she complains about everything!) We are getting the non-jetted version. Also, I am hoping that building the deck at the front will help with the water spray. I am pushing the tub back into an alcove under the window the long way (so we get into the tub at the 32" side rather than from the 48" side) and we are trying to go without shower doors in order to make the bath feel open. With a deck, we buy a few more inches of length to help avoid water on the floor. We may not succeed and will put a panel on if we have to. Any thoughts on this?

I've done showers that had all kinds of windows. I'm not saying it can't be done. i have one and i just use a clear curtain on the inside.
