help with powder room mirror/towel rack

i havent posted pics before, so i hope this works.

I have a hodgepodge of elements going on in my small powder room, due to my lack of foresight. This started with a small kitchen remodel when we decided to pay a little bit extra for our granite and replace the vanity top at the same time.. That led to a new sink and fixtures. I spent a long time picking out the faucets, finally choosing ones i really love. We then pulled down the large rectangular mirror and have repainted the walls.

I am looking for some suggestions as to what type of mirror to get. The countertop is New Venetian Gold granite, vanity is white, light is an almost black orb, and the faucets are polished nickel.

White, nickel, wood color of the light, frameless ????

rectangle, oval, square ???

and, then what to do for the towel rack?

PLease ignore the oak mirror that is sitting on the countertop, its just there temporarily to make sure our teeth get clean.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated, thanks.

I would try to get a mirror that works with the light fixture - dark frame oval with a bit of scroll in the frame.

For the hand-towel rack I would try to get something that incorporates both the ORB and the satin nickel.

That looks great so far. I had this mirror bookmarked for a long time in my file. I really wanted it but it was a bit too small. It has a warm wood tone but with silver accents that might tie your two metals together....?? It's a rectangle and I would put hang it lengthwise. What do you think of this?

Then, I think I'd use polished nickel for the towel rack

Allison - the detail on your mirror is just gorgeous! I'd like to find something similar, but perhaps in an oval shape, given the angles of the vanity. I very much like your sconces also. Thanks so much for posting pics. It helps me visualize my space much better. Thank you, brutuses. This little vanity was purchased on ebay and shipped to me last February! It's been sitting in a crate for most of the year waiting for my much delayed remodel. Was it you who was also converting an antique dresser into a bath vanity? If so, I remember your picture and it was just what I wanted, but unfortunately that style was too big for my space.

We recommend a round mirror like the one featured in the space found HERE. We also recommend doing a similar lighting style if you plan to use this space to get ready in the mornings. We suggest sticking with the metal tones you've already chosen for the pulls and faucet. Try switching back and forth to prevent it from leaning too much on one metal, i.e. because your faucet will be close to the mirror choose a trim that matches the pulls for the mirror.

you could do lots of types. personally I would do something w/sconces since you only have the one sink. or just do a full size mirror (a little bit smaller than the vanity length) or round again, something w/lights. that wall is awfully bare. what else are you doing on it? anything above the toilet? wallpaper, art, sconces,,,,

The light fixture and wallpaper are beautiful & compliment each other and I think you can combine polished nickle and chrome. The only thing I notice is that a longer mirror might be nice - one that comes down lower to your faucet. I realize that is a medicine cabinet tho. After the wallpaper goes up, you could take another look at it - or perhaps a plain tile backsplash to close that gap? Good luck!

Check out the thread I started the other day, regarding the gorgeous Venetian Mirror I saw at my cousin's house. mls0520 sent me a link to JCPenney's website which led to the perfect mirror for only $149.00. I think it would look beautiful in your bathroom.

BTW, I love your New Venetian Gold granite.

Linday- That is a beautiful mirror. I think one like that perhaps in a darker finish to match my light would look perfect.

neesie--thank you for the link, I have been perusing that website looking a hundreds of pretty mirror. My light fixture is a bit rustic in that the "scroll work" is actually a tree leaf design, I think the venetian style mirrors are a bit too ornate for it.

Still looking...I'm thinking of using satin finish knobs on my vanity to tie in with my faucets (my mistake, the faucets are not polished, but rather brushed nickel), and look for a mirror with a finish like my light?

Geez - at first I thought that was a picture of MY bathroom!

I was wondering where to put the towel ring as well and my contractor said - no contest - put it to the right of the sink under the light switch by the door. I don't know if that is the way yours is set up - but it looks to be like mine. I thought that would be too far from the sink - but it's worked out fine. I put that picture over the tilet where you have the shelf. I replaced the big standard frameless mirror - but think I would like a dark wood frame.

Click onto Venetian mirrors and look at these. Very pretty but there are many, many mirrors. Some are quite pricy but very pretty.

massagerocks, I wanted to show you this inspiration bathroom I had in my files. Their faucet is brass but the fixtures are bronze. They matched the towel rack to the facuet. I love how this looks. Hope it gives you ideas.

mcps---wow, we do have the same bathroom! i love your paint color and your faucet. That soap dispenser is so pretty. You found a perfect painting to tie in the colors, its looks great! My towel rack was as you described on the small wall to the right of the vanity where the light switch is.

The paint color is SW Blonde. We started with the kitchen and adjoining family room, then loved the color so much, we decided to paint all our rooms with it! whew, exhausting, but with white trim it all looks so velvety, rich and peaceful. The color looks good in every room exposure, lots of light and darker hallways.

We do have a separated dining room I'm thinking of doing in SW Wheatgrass which is a lighter green with yellow undertones, and seems to blend well with the Blonde.

We have such similar taste. I love everything about the inspiration pic you posted, and now I dont feel so bad about all the different materials i have in my little room. I'm going to do as in your pic, find a mirror with frame to match my light, and then the towel rack/ring and cabinet hardware to match the faucets.

one other question: which looks better, a towel rack or ring?

I prefer the rings near the vanity. Just my opinion of course!
