Dilemma continues for DSD14...where will she live?

Well, my wonderful, sweet BonusDaughter14 is here and we're having a great summer so far. Her cousin & grandma came up Friday and spent the day & night, which was good. She and her cousin are very close. The topic of where she will live for high school hadn't yet come up....but.....

As we were heading to the mall, they were talking about classes, etc for the fall. The topic of required summer reading came up and her cousin said, "Are you staying in NC?!". DSD shrugged her shoulders and said with a sad tone of voice "yeah, I guess so...I guess I kinda have to." To which I replied, "I thought you hadn't decided yet" (which was the last thing she told us). And she said, "oh?, I thought I did". Her response sounded more like a question.

In an effort to not ruin her time with her cousin and cause her any more stress than she has already endured, I quickly said, "Ya know what?...we aren't going to talk about this right now. You don't need to worry about these things. You just need to focus on being a great 14yr old kid. The grown-ups will figure this out, ok?" She immediately looked relieved.

She has definitely been internalizing alot of stress over the past 7 months, since she told her mom she wanted to move here for high school. She quickly becomes tearful when she has to decide anything she assumes will hurt her dad's feelings or mine. Simple things...like when her friends want to have a sleepover, etc...I think she is so scared of hurting her parents feelings (by not spending every minute with them) that she is losing sight of what's really important to her. It's sad.

I think we're doing the right thing, though. We hope to discuss things with her mom & stepdad in the next 2-3 weeks. In an effort to decrease her anxiety/stress, she will not be involved in the conversation. She said before that she just wanted the grown-ups to figure it out and she'd be happy not to have to be "the bad guy". So, I think that's our plan. Getting her mom to agree to such a discussion might be a little tricky, but we'll give it a go.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...
