need help with fabric -- for Good Will find.

Went to good will to look for a chair for my family room...my intention was to replace the wicker chair by the French door with a small upholstered chair. Instead, I came across a wing chair, it was pretty nice looking, so I sat in it...It is the most comfortable chair that I ever sat in...the back is coil springs so you sink comfortably in it.

It is the most comfy chair I ever sat in..did I day that already? I've been looking for a comfortable chair all my life and now I found it! Now I know how Fraiser's Father felt about his chair... :)

So I took my wing chair that was next to the FP and replaced it with this new find...I sat in it last night to watch Tv, while I crochet and the next thing I knew it was 5:30 in the morning! So, I coined it "The Grandma Napping Chair"..

I am going to the fabric guys I deal with on Monday...

If you remember the last chair we reupholstered for the LR I did in a golden-tannish chenele..I like the look of chenele and the durability of it...

Please help me decide on color, a mocha color, light tan,

striped, red? Also if anyone knows anything about this chair

please tell me about it... I also plan on stripping the legs and staining them darker to match the furniture.

This is where i put the other wing chair (this is where the wicker chair was) I am open to reupholstering this chair as well...

Oh wow, another great find, you lucky thing!! I don't have any recommendations as I'm sure you'll find something beautiful like you always do. You and OS have the best luck finding beautiful chairs!!

What a great find! I'm so jealous :)

You can't go wrong with chenille in my opinion. It wears well and feels nice. You really could pick any solid color and it will likely work almost anywhere, in case you move stuff around your house.
I tend toward the warmer, autumnal shades like golds and russets. Those also play nice with leather. The center "flower" in your rug looks like a nice color too, so how about using a tone from that?

Maybe the colors are off on my screen, but it looks nice in the room the way it is! I'd recover the old wingback first.

Try at Morrison's in Plymouth. Last time I wandered through (November-ish) they still had a decent selection of hardy clumping bamboo. Congratulations! No help with the choosing a fabricator, but be sure your slab is YOUR slab. Many GW members have paid in full for a particular slab that was subsequently sold to someone else who wanted the stone immediately.

I’ve had custom furniture made before, and I agree that it’s not necessarily more expensive, and it’s a great option. I think it’s a much riskier undertaking with a sofa however. Subtle variations can make a huge difference in both looks and comfort. I think it’s fine if you see a sofa you can try out and examine and then just make it a bit longer or whatever. But cobbling together a custom sofa from, say pictures, is risky in my opinion.

Thanks Brutus...however it is agony for me--picking out fabric...I can use all the help you'll willing to give me.

For those that don't remember here's the other good-will find.
It was upholstered in pink with white shells when i found it...and it had blond wood on the bottom.
This is the golden chenille fabric.

Alex, I need to work on hubby to get him started on the old wingback...we just did it about 2 years ago...
that's why I need help picking out fabric...I don't like the pattern anymore, and don't want to make another mistake on this chair....

SCORE!!!!

So funny--I'm at this minute looking for pillow fabrics. Here's the site I'm perusing at the moment--maybe it would help if you went on this site--or one like it--and selected some fabrics you like and posted them, and then we can at least narrow down texture/design/etc., so when you talk to your fabric guy on Monday, you'll have a clearer sense of the direction you want to go in?

WHat a beautiful chair.. and I so get the looking all your life for the perfect chair then finding it. I think I found mine also (a wesley hall wing chair).

Obviously the current fabric isn't quite right but I like the dimension that the color and stripe bring to your lovely room. I would think a deep red to coordinate with the sofa would be great.. I also like the ochre/gold of the center flower that Alex noted.

I would like to see something in tans and greens in a chenille. You have so much brown in the room between the current fabrics and all the wood, that it might be nice to bring in some green to freshen the look a bit.

At the housefabric.com site that OSH gave, there are a lot of great chenilles to see. Maybe something like this:

Thanks for the links...check out all the browns on this page... I love the animal prints as well as the gator fabric. But maybe the animal prints would be too over the top. Maybe a mocha chenille with some red in it?
anyhow, love all these fabrics.
funkyart, I fell in love with the chair more for it's comfort, than the style. If it wasn't so super comfortable I probably would have passed on it, since I already have 2 other wing backs...

I like the "Satish Husk," because it's warm, goes well with the sofa, and will pick up on colors in your rug.

Gosh-- I love the Satish Husk too. It is gorgeous and looks great with the rug and sofa. Not so sure about how it will work with the animal prints but you have brought together many patterns and textures and it all works beautifully. I'd like to think the Satish Husk would be right at home too.
