How to rid house of dog smell
Comments (31)PLEASE HELP we have never had dogs in this house and have lived here 8 years prior to wet dog smell arriving! We have laminate flooring throughout the downstairs rooms, the rooms near the front of house (darker rooms as no sunlight + also street water runs towards our front so always damp outside there) smell of wet dog everytime we mop them, the ones at sunny side of house dont?? My real worry is because i started with some form of respiratory problem soon after this smell appeared and now my son seems to be showing problems too. Im wondering if there is some mold maybe under laminate or under house which is apparently sat on a floating foundation? (not a full cement floor but a smaller square in centre under it so it can flex safely? i think!) or even a problem in wooden frame of house as we have had 2 bad leaks, 1 above the rooms that smell, and 1 where it smells although both were 4 years ago, 3 years before smell starting. I have searched internet and can find no answers everyone seems to say its because of actual dogs but that is not the case here so what is it from? how do i locate cause with minimal cost? Or would the house insurance cover anything? the laminate is glued together so it will be ruined if i pull it up. Ive had a skirting board off and cant see/smell anything there...Or do you think it could just be a chemical in the laminate that reacts with water and creates this wet dog smell? please help i am going to have to do something soon so any ideas / advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks...See MoreHow to remove creasote smell from roon
Comments (2)I sympathize with you and I see what our future might have been had we continued to use our fire place. We would get the smell and suffer with it for a week or so before it dissipated. We burned a lot of scented candles. More recently I bought a La-Tee-Da catalytic, scented, alcohol burner with the ceramic burner head. They sell similar ones in cigar shops for more than twice the price. We haven't had a fire since I got the burner, so I can't really comment but the cigar smokers I know all use these burners. I also stay long term in hotels where the smells are not always what you might desire. For those I usually buy a Glade plug-in type of device. They have a wick, heater, and a fan that blows the scent out into the room. I've tried incense in the hotels and that didn't work for me. I think it might have had I been there 24 hours to keep the incense burning....See MoreHow to remove skunk smell from a dog!
Comments (6)kelp - I think the peroxide solution was the best. He was still smelly after the bath last night, but he was still wet. Today I can only smell the skunk on him if I put my nose right in his face. I have some "skunk remover" from the pet store that I plan to try. Unfortunately, Rocky came in the house for about 10 seconds before we realized what had happened. So the smell is lingering inside. I'm open to tip for solving this problem. We're burning candles, we had the windows open for a few hours this afternoon (but now it is too cold to leave them open), and we have bowls of coffee grounds around the house. We heard that it will absorb some of the smell....See MoreStumped on what to do in this space...how about this CL couch?
Comments (22)Here is a pic of the sectional from the area of where our monster TV is located. You can see the front door in the background so when you walk in and turn right the first area you see is the front porch/sitting area. I would LOVE to do window seats, but it can't be done because the radiators are in the walls beneath the windows. I have a console table, that was behind the sectional, but it's a little top heavy and I'm afraid it might tip if my 13 month old tries to pull himself up on it, so it is currently in my bedroom. I'm all for letting the kids use this space to play in, but it's also the first thing you see when you come in my house. Trying to find a solution so it is a sitting area, and play area, and looks nice when guests come over....See Moreandee_gw
