If it is rehap followed by halfway house, I would assume it was also a criminal matter. Maybe a severe DWI (and btw, I regard ALL dwi as servere, but the law where I am treats it as worse, depending on alchohol level, repeated offense, if someone injured, child in car, etc.). Personnally, I would just tell a client we are seperated (which is true) and most people are tactful enough not to ask more.

Now your suggestion is definitely a lie, even though they are in fact separated by distance, it is quite a different thing than being separated because you are in rehab.

I know rehab can last up to 6 months for sure because the girls mom might have to be there for that amount of time if she doesn't make progress.

They start you out at 45 days and then up it as needed from there to as much as 6 months....at least thats how they do it at Greenleaf here. I don't know about halfway houses. It would be FABULOUS if their mom was put in one though:) She needs to have a close eye kept upon here for at the very least a year after rehab.

Drug rehab can last however long it takes. Short programs don't work well for someone that has a really bad problem and the six months in a halfway house doesn't sound excessive. If they beat the drug habit, they have to learn how to live drug free with plenty of support and time to deal with all their issues. Going straight home from rehab is sometimes the worse thing because they go back to the stress or lifestyle that they had when they developed the drug problem in the first place.

I'm not sure I would share that with strangers but some people don't care. I wouldn't lie, but I would probably not tell someone that my husband was gone unless they knew my husband (and then they might know about the drug problem) or if I was asked, it would depend on who is doing the asking and how well I know them. I'm not going to discuss personal things with a stranger in the grocery store line.

Maybe she really is in rehab. Maybe she got hooked on Xanax from having to deal with his ex-wife all the time and his bratty kids.

Seems to me from the popular press that Rehab is the IN place to be these days... Certainly doesn't seem to have much of a stigma for all of the celebraties.

I wouldn't necessarily assume that rehab followed by a halfway house would be a criminal matter.

SS18 was in drug/alcohol rehab from March 2007 through August 2007. Six months. He was treated with other adolescents, and most of the kids were going home and back to high school upon release. There was one young man who had already finished high school. His parents and counselors felt that he wasn't ready to return home after 6 months, so he was going on to a halfway house upon his release. So it happens.

sometimes people who live with alcoholics or drug addicts get tired of lying and covering up and just start telling people about it. kind of HE/SHE is using drugs not me, why do i have to be embarassed?
and i just talked to someone who's husband came home from 5 month rehab (alcohol), there are all kind of rehabs out there.

That's a good point finedreams. Anyone that has a drug user or alcoholic in their life, probably knows that the drug user or alcoholic often relies on family and friends to keep their secret. It is sometimes something that the family is willing to keep secret because they may be ashamed that their loved one has this problem. Parents may feel guilty that they did something wrong in parenting or may lie because they are in denial. Children keep the secret to protect the parent.

But, the reality is that as long as the secret is a secret and everybody pretends it's not happening, there can be no recovery. 'what problem?' You can't fix what you don't acknowledge.... (and I don't even watch Dr. Phil) but that's the first step of recovery... admitting there's a problem. (that includes family & friends)

Didn't read all the responses but since substance abuse is my focus in my career I wanted to reassure you that yes it is not uncommon for someone to check in for extensive treatment for addiction issues followed by 6mo-1 yr of staying in a halfway house relearning how to live clean & sober. The longer the treatment & follow up with halfway house the higher the success of long term recovery.

Addiction is just one of the most horrific diseases to treat and recover from. I wish your friend & his spouse the best. She is lucky to be able to afford such an extended treatment course as most insurance companies pay only 7-10 days in patient. When I first started workig substance abuse 20+ yr.s ago they paid at least for 30 days inpatient..

See I thought detox was like physical therapy you go as long as they think you need it whether its 30 days or 365 I thought it would be up to the therapist how much treatment you need not ok its going to take a year... evaluated along the way not starting point of one year.
