LowE windows 272 or 366
Comments (7)It sounds like the 266 is better for you. But it all really depends on orientation, climate, shade etc. There is no one answer. Even mixing windows on a house might be a good idea. The Midwest is a large area - could be Minn - could be St Louis. You might have a/c or you might not and are willing to spend some money so that you can continue to live without a/c. If you are predominately cold - then obviously a little more solar heat gain is a good idea. U value becomes the most important. If you have some heat - then low solar heat gain is important if you are unshaded and the windows get sun in the summer. I live in mixed and my North windows never get direct sunlight - SHG doesn't really matter there. Now my West windows - it would make sense to pay for less SHG. And generally in South windows, a higher SHG is a good idea to maximize winter heat gain. So the answer depends on too many things to say one is better than the other. But in the midwest, you probably want relatively more SHG. Not a simple subject and you would hope that your builder would have some guidance in your particular situation. If not your builder, then some energy consultant. It seems like an energy consultant (like Energy Star) should almost be standard on new construction since a lot of builders don't seem to care....See Moresaltwater vs fresh? and acrylic vs glass? please help!
Comments (5)Also, just wanted to say if you don't have air conditioning in your house you will have to worry about the temp of your salt water tank in the summer. I live in zone 6 and we don't have air conditioning. We have lost fish due to the heat during the summer. My parents had the same problem. We used to try to bring down the temp by floating ziplocks full of ice in the tank. That works. Just wanted to point out that this can be an issue. Salt water tanks really need to be kept very stable! I have a brackish tank (in between salt and fresh water) and it is SO easy. It is pretty much the same as having a fresh water. The fish are more forgiving as they are used to salt and temperature changes. It can be difficult to find brackish fish though. My brother also has a HUGE salt water tank. It is beautiful. This winter they had a bad storm and lost power. They were going on a full day without it and didn't think power would be restored any time soon so they decided to transfer the fish to my parents house (they had power) they ended up losing 2 fish I think, however if they left them at their house they would have lost them all for sure. That is WAY too much stress for me! I like my carefree tanks :) As for acrylic, it scratches so you have to be careful with it. I also wonder if it would be suitable for salt water. I had a very small acrylic tank for my mini puffers (fresh water) and I liked the tank however it was a little difficult to get algea off it. I ended up getting a little net kitchen scrubber and that worked well. The sponge I use for the glass tank was too stiff, I think it would have scratched the acrylic tank. Acrylic is WAY lighter though. That was nice. -renee...See MoreAmerimax LowE366 (AG3) vs. Low E270
Comments (2)Both LoE-366 and LoE-270 are Cardinal coatings. The visible transmittance of the 366 coating is 66%. The VT of the 270 is 70%. Neither the 366 or the 270 are tinted coatings. Although small samples might look a bit different, few people would notice a difference in the light entering a home when using the 366 versus the 270....See More1st Time Poster, Please help: Subzero/Wolf vs. Thermador vs. KA vs. ??
Comments (53)Yes! We got it sorred out. So it turned out to be a loose circuit breaker. It was the new sub panel put in for our kitchen reno. We had some electrical work done and hired an electrician tonadd some recessed lighting. He ran it back to the new subpanel and he comes up from the basement nd asks if we were having problems with the stove. I said yes. He said he noticed the breaker wasnt seated properly. It was making a connection but just barely. He popped it out and popped it back in and sure enough I went and ran that oven at 500 for an hour with no issues. The cause imo was the weak current was causing the computer to think there was a fan issue. An anomaly. Want to say we have since moved and it was a relief to be able to have that taken care of. I will buy Thermdor again! They did send us a new range (after repeated service calls). So would so donit again...See More- 13 years ago
