Hi Antonv. You might try posting in the fruit forum. There would be more grape growers there. You will probably find that grapes are easy to grow. There is a lot of information on the web about growing them. Just google on "table grape growing new york" or something like that. New York is grape heaven (upstate, anyway). If you really want to be obsessed about them, check the link below. I have the book & have spent more time reading it than actually growing grapes! For the first year, about all that you need to worry about is let them grow without restriction. You just want them to grow good roots and a sturdy main stem. Next winter you will prune to one main vine each - the style that you use depends on whether you want arbor or trellis. I was intimidated by all of the information on pruning styles, but finally decided that it isnt rocket science, and I think that I got the gist of it. When you receive the vines they will look puny (at least mine did) but in a good climate, they grow fast. Dont over fertilize - too much nitrogen makes them all leaves and no grapes, and rampant vines are not as winter hardy. I just use some compost on mine. My parents had grapes in the midwest, never fertilized, and we always had plenty of grapes. One more thing - you might want to build your arbor or trellis before planting the vines. I planted the vines first, and built the arbor a year later. They did fine, but the placement isnt exactly what I would have done if I had started with the arbor first, then planted the vines. Actually other fruits also have yeast blooms, as it is called. Yeast has successfully mutated to colonize anything and everything that it possibly can, including human beings but, that is neither here nor there as to this discussion. Their are many, many varieties of yeast, as is evident with the wine making yeast that comes from different regions of France that can be purchased through a vinters supply. Some fruits have been used for their wild yeast to start sourdough starters as well. Mother Earth News once did an article on fruits and wild yeasts, and it was a wine making article. Personally I enjoy country wines, and sometimes drink them young. Some wines lend themselves more to that than others, of course. If you are wanting to make a wine to be enjoyed while young then you may want to try using a yeast that is more specific for that purpose. Lalvine yeast offers a type labeled 71B-1122 that is suited for that purpose. If you are not stuck on making your own Beaujolais Nouveau, and would like to try a country wine that is fairly good when young, then you may like to try making one with any of the various cranberry juice cocktails on the market. They now have cocktails with raspberries, strawberriess, and one called wildberries, among others worth making a wine with, and that bypasses dealing with a must. Easier than pie. By the way; even though yeast does exist on other fruits grapes are indeed the only fruit where the fruit is allowed to use its own yeast for the fermentation process. A wine making yeast, which is a grape yeast, should always be used for country wines that are made from various fruits and vegetables other than grapes. The natural yeast that may occur on other fruit is first killed of with sulfur tabs before adding the much more desirable wine making yeast. Perhaps this need not even be said here but, although making wine with baking yeast can be and has been commonly done,to me there definitely is a big difference. I have known several country folks over the years who make their wine that way.

I would suspect you would probably be OK. To help make sure, you could insulate? We put insulation inside the cabinet with our oven as a sound barrier because I do not like the sound of oven fans. However, you might be able to use a similar thing next to the wine fridge side of the dishwasher. You can make grape jelly with them. My grandmother used to do that with wild grapes that were on the bitter side, and I loved it. If you do not have time, you can use extract the juice and freeze that, or you can freeze the pulp. I got rid of the grape vine that came with my current house so that I could make room for orchid cactus plants. Here's where my grape vine used to be: I don't think I have a "before" photo, but I can go across the street to the Centinela Adobe this time of year and pick grapes that they have on their grounds. Theirs are sweet, however, and can be eaten by themselves. I had problems with possums eating my grapes, which is another reason I got rid of my vine. Plus it made very few grapes and was only good for the leaves, which I never got around to using, although I love stuffed grape leaves. I can get grape leaves across the street, if I need those as well! Do you use the leaves from your vine? When I had tons of passion fruit (which possums also love) in Venice, I bought a Juiceman juicer to extract the juice, as passion fruits have lots of seeds also. I made sorbet with the juice that I extracted, but I froze it until I was ready to use it.
