My advice to everyone I talk to is that they should purchase the best window that they can which fits into their budget. The only caveat to that, is the folks that do not have a realistic budget to begin with, but that is not a problem here. Ultimately, you are spending $5k give or take. A difference of a few hundred dollars is going to be very small if not irrelevant in the grand scheme when you take into consideration the size of the purchase and the fact that you have to live with these windows for the next X number of years. If you have the windows for 20 yrs, that is a difference $2 and change per month, or $32 per yr. When you look at it that way, it doesn't seem to make much sense to base this choice on price. My advice: Pick the window that you like better from the installation company that you like better. Easy as that. You won't go wrong either way on product (installer is another matter, but we can't really offer much on that without knowing the companies in question). Easy enough ;)

We finally got it out. Needed two people and a step ladder and had to force it somewhat. This screen was made by Thermal Industries after the windows were made and installed because the seller inadvertently put an order in for the half screen although we wanted a full screen. Maybe because it was made later it's just a tad too wide. Getting it back in after repair could prove problematic, but we'll see. If it's a problem I'll take pictures and seek your help windowswashington. (Never should have bought these windows...nothing but issues popping up. Subsequently bought some Sunrise double hungs and wish constantly all the windows were Sunrise!)

ardcp, you state "full replacement", I assume that means a full frame tear-out? If so, your prices are DEFINITELY NOT out of line. A full tear out can easily add $200+ on top of an insert install, which I suspect is what you are comparing the pricing that you have seen online to. You technically have 14 units. Regarding Sunrise pricing, it is impossible to say if it will be more. Pricing varies by dealer. In fact, you could concievably find 2 more Softlite dealers and one would be higher, and one lower than your current quote. On quality, if you were going to sell the home in a year, I would say that your line of thinking is probably not too far off. Most potential buyers will just see new windows. 10 years however is a different story. That is plenty of time for a low grade product to show its age. I see 10 yr old high end products that look like they could have been installed last month, and 10 yr old low end products that are falling apart, twisted up, and look like they could be 30 yrs old. Regarding recouping your money, no they will not pay for themselves in energy efficiency in 10 yrs unless your current windows are ungodly leakers, but between the energy savings over 10 years and the increased property value, it might not be too far off. Estimates are free. Our salespeople are truly consultants. We don't approve of any coercive or high-pressure selling tactics. At most, they will need about 40 minutes to an hour to understand your needs, measure your openings and supply you with a detailed quote. Of course, if you have a lot of questions, they'll stay longer to make certain your questions are answered. (As a side note - Beware of sales representatives who insist on staying in your home for 2 or 3 hours and pressure you to sign a contract or lose out on their best price. Chances are their best price is two to three times the average for a similar product in your market.) So, the real question is this: If you live in Oklahoma, why wouldn't you give the only window manufacturer in the state, which happens to have an excellent record of customer satisfaction, an opportunity to show you what they can do? As far as I'm concerned, if you look at everything from our products, our installation, our service record and our competitive pricing, you won't find better value in windows and doors in Oklahoma than Thermal Windows, Inc.
