My dress arrived today!!!

I'm so excited. I can't get into it by myself so I can't post any pics yet. But as soon as I try it on I'll have sone pics taken and post them.

OOOH! That's great!

I think the dress was one of the more exciting parts of the pre-ceremony events! Just trying it on and imagining yourself walking into the church/hall and your soon-to-be-hubby up there watching you, it's pretty terrific!

I have my dress too! It is over at my mom's house with my shoes, slip and tiara. I tried it on once by myself and just about died! I spent an hour it seems twirling around the house and dancing with myself! I can't get anyone to take my picture in it though! The company's website doesn't do the picture justice.

Rene, Roses actually love clay soil for its richness. I have Houston black clay where I live and I don't amend for aeration or drainage. My Austins are puttering along like champs. The clay actually helps with water retention I've found so the soil stays moist like they enjoy. We've all been the crazy gardener at some point! Josh

So here's the room. You've got the left chair pulled over to show off the fireplace, but for all intents and purposes, that fireplace is no longer of much importance. The seating is ignoring it, so you should too. I would try moving the chairs to the left, bring them into the seating area closer, and straighten them, then see if you could fit a small table of normal height between the chairs. You could also add a lamp as I don't see any lighting. If the martini table must stay, I'd try a floor lamp between the chairs and see if it might pull this together as a vignette. Where the chairs are now a lamp won't work with the doors as backdrop. If you could get the lamp to fall between the door and fireplace this might work. Simplify the mantel so the lamp acts as art. Sofa may need to move down a foot. Or remove the right chair all together and put a round table between the sofa and chair. Done.

Dave, receiving new plants in the post is always exciting! Having not seen the plants you are purchasing, there's usually an element of surprise too! (You hope for the pleasant variety!) Looks like you have some nice root systems that will pay dividends in the coming months. I only have one of those - Lakeside Ripples (photo taken today). This will be its third year, but you seem to have secured one that's already off to a good start! Be sure to post the progress of Lemon Squash - I love the look of all those ripply ones developed by Jeroen Linneman! It's available in the States this year, but as yet, it hasn't crossed the border to any retailers further north! Anyhow, enjoy watching your haul grow over the coming weeks and months. BC

I have also been looking at shoes-- though my choices wouldn't appeal for the most part because I tend to prefer a pointy toe. Do you wear mules? Most of my fall shoes will be mules and most are pointy but I did order this one to replace a pair of cole haan gold-bronze penny loafers that I wore to death. If they fit, I will likely get the black as well! For flats, I really like franco sarto and cole haan-- but also check out sam Edelman, he has some fun leopard prints and other patterns. The ones above are Johnston and Murphy. Where I am really striking out is with booties. I am just not finding a flat/low bootie that I like.

Tonight's the night I get to try it on. I did try by myself but I could do up the laces at the back. Why can't you get anyone to take your picture in it? No one will do it or are they afraid you'll show DF?

Everytime I go over to my mom's with the digital camera she has an excuse not to take the picture...I secretly think she still thinks I am a clutz and will mess up the dress! My only other option is to have my son take the picture and he is a blabbermouth galore...One of these days I will get pictures taken. I am altering the dress too...it has a sweep train that will be cut to be ankle length...I have Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy visions in my head...the men will be in cutaway jackets, grey vests and pinstriped trousers...I just love that look.

OOOH!! So you want to cut off your train too? I want to and I keep getting grief for it. It's pretty but I really don't want to have a bustle...also, it's just not my style. Have you gotten grief about cutting off the train?

Actually I haven't gotten grief about cutting the train off...only from David's Bridal and they don't count! I want it off for several reasons, the first being that I am 35 and I feel silly in a big wedding dress, the second is I want to be comfortable in the dress and not worry about someone stepping on it or me tripping.
I was going to have my mom take before pictures today but I just had my bangs cut and they are too short. I look like Buster Brown and that is not the look I am going for!
