I'm so excited. I can't get into it by myself so I can't post any pics yet. But as soon as I try it on I'll have sone pics taken and post them.

OOOH! That's great!

I think the dress was one of the more exciting parts of the pre-ceremony events! Just trying it on and imagining yourself walking into the church/hall and your soon-to-be-hubby up there watching you, it's pretty terrific!

I have my dress too! It is over at my mom's house with my shoes, slip and tiara. I tried it on once by myself and just about died! I spent an hour it seems twirling around the house and dancing with myself! I can't get anyone to take my picture in it though! The company's website doesn't do the picture justice.

Nik, I know that Americans farther South than my zone 6a do plant in the Fall but I have had no personal experience with warmer zones. However, from my zone North (and that's a lot of territory), Fall planting is not a viable option. In August it is too hot to plant, getting in the high 80s and then the first frosts come about the first or second week in October. Four to five weeks is not enough time for the roses to get established and prepare for the hard frosts soon to come. Our last frost date is May 15, so that is about 7 months. Usually we have snow cover then it melts, then more snow cover and on and on through the winter. This is especially bad because repeated freezing and thawing cycles heave plants out of the ground. A constant snow cover, which we do not have, would prevent that and in addition would be protective insulation, keeping the plants near 32 F instead of the -10F air temperatures normal for this zone. It may be difficult for most Europeans to sense the degree and duration of cold that we experience, Scandinavian countries and Scotland excepted. When I read English gardening books that say a plant is cold hardy, I have to remember they mean that it will survive in a zone much warmer than mine. Most of England is zone 8! Compare the Hardiness Zone maps on Garden Web of Europe versus The United States. The color of the zones give a more intuitive feel for the difference in climate. Cath

My sweet potato slips arrived today...

Twenty-five for $19.99 is a good price. One hundred for $16 is incredible! I've started out selling sweet potato slips, for the first time, this year. I started at $1 per slip plus $8.50 postage and ended up going to $1.25 per slip. I haven't even been able to advertise my Red Wine Velvet because the demand has been so high that I am sold out. Next year I will probably follow Sandhill Preservation Center's example and charge differently according to variety. Some varieties are less prolific producers of sprouts and slower to sprout than others. George What got me into trying my hand at selling slips was, that for the last four years, I've noticed, here in Tahlequah, that when it's time to plant sweet potatoes, there seem to be dozens of people looking for slips and the big box stores generally trot out a couple dozen slips... that's it! Also, for anyone starting their own slips, remember to harden them off. If they've been grown behind a window pane or under lights, they are not prepared for the sun's ultraviolet rays. Putting them straight out can seriously hurt them.

He will do whatever to make you happy. Ask for some pictures so you will get exactly what you want and expect, and so there won't be any problems. Mickey is very happy to do so. They are by far the best Mail Order Nursery for us in California and West Coast. - Jacob

first ... nice to see someone pot up .. and protect ... leafed out deliveries from out of zone ... kudos ... why do you have to wait to spray .... whats wind have to do with it ... take you sprayer to pavement.. fill with water ... and find out how LITTLE pressure you need to create DROPS .. as compared to mist ... also use the adjuster at the tip ... get this.. drops have mass.. and gravity dictates ... i am pretty sure.. even where you are... that they fall to the ground.. rather than blown around the yard ... of course i am not talking gale force winds .... but if i waited for ONLY windless days... i would never get anything sprayed ... ken ps: if i recall... when i fill my sprayer.. to a certain level ... 25 pumps ... gets me where i want to be... and if the tip is properly adjusted.. the handle sorta vibrates .. in other words.. i can tell by feel when i have the right droplets ...

Tonight's the night I get to try it on. I did try by myself but I could do up the laces at the back. Why can't you get anyone to take your picture in it? No one will do it or are they afraid you'll show DF?

Everytime I go over to my mom's with the digital camera she has an excuse not to take the picture...I secretly think she still thinks I am a clutz and will mess up the dress! My only other option is to have my son take the picture and he is a blabbermouth galore...One of these days I will get pictures taken. I am altering the dress too...it has a sweep train that will be cut to be ankle length...I have Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy visions in my head...the men will be in cutaway jackets, grey vests and pinstriped trousers...I just love that look.

OOOH!! So you want to cut off your train too? I want to and I keep getting grief for it. It's pretty but I really don't want to have a bustle...also, it's just not my style. Have you gotten grief about cutting off the train?

Actually I haven't gotten grief about cutting the train off...only from David's Bridal and they don't count! I want it off for several reasons, the first being that I am 35 and I feel silly in a big wedding dress, the second is I want to be comfortable in the dress and not worry about someone stepping on it or me tripping.
I was going to have my mom take before pictures today but I just had my bangs cut and they are too short. I look like Buster Brown and that is not the look I am going for!
