making your own wedding invitations

Has anyone made their own invitations? We have an extremely high quality picture quality printer at home and I would like to check into this for DD's wedding? If so, where did you purchase the paper, and what software did you use? Thanks!

I made mine. Got the paper at Staples Office Supply.
Retailers are now realizing that brides to be want to save major money, and are printing their own invites. The quality and varieties of the papers are awesome!
Some people get really artistic using velum overlays ect, I just used what they call a formal invite paper. It had a nice embossed design running up the side. Then I glued small bows to the top of them.
I bought smaller cards that matched to make my reception cards and response cards. And I printed them all using purple ink.
The invites I bought did come with software, but i didn't like being limited to their font. I liked my font better. But it's a real basic program if that's what you are looking for.
Final cost was probably less than $100 for 150 invites, reception cards and response cards.
I used my Microsoft Picture It! Program to print everything.
I printed our programs too, and got those papers on E-Bay.
I also printed my own save the date cards, and printed out my own return address labels to use on them.
All total, I used 3 ink cartridges. I could have gotten by using less ink, but when I did my save the date cards i printed a photo on the front of all of them, which used lots of my ink.
Good luck. Once I got started, I had a good time doing it myself. It can be quite nerve wracking, so practice, practice practice on plain paper before wasting your invites!

We designed our own but then took them to a printer and had them printed. We chose to do this instead of printing them ourselves to save money. Our invitations were the seal-n-send kind---I don't think I would have used anyothers. We got 350 invitations for $20. They looked better than the one's you send off for.

Thank you, Amanda, I'll be sure to tell Ashley. She just keeps getting it cut shorter and shorter, mostly because it's always a different color and she gets "icky" ends. LOL I told her she's gonna be bald soon, but she likes her hair short because it's easier to take care of. She's kind of busy with work and school, but you know that better than anyone, I'm sure. Elery really likes me as a redhead and is trying to encourage me to get it dyed regularly. I just hate sitting still for that hour and a half, so it's probably not going to happen more than twice a year, but thank you. I love the color, I just haven't decided how much I love it, and whether it's worth the time and money in the beauty shop. :-) Annie

And there's no rule the parents have to be mentioned on the invitation of the first wedding either. Lots of couples these days sponsor their own wedding, so they are the ones to extend the invitation. Wording like you quoted is fine for either ceremony, and there are other choices, too. However the bride and groom want it worded pretty much goes so long it doesn't violate rules of etiquette or grammar such as misusing the word honour as opposed to honor.

Congratulations to you! For two reasons, I would not call this party a "reception": (1) the party is much too far after the wedding -- closer to the first anniversary -- and (2) although it was a very small wedding, it wasn't an elopement or a City Hall ceremony with no celebration or guests at all. I would just call it a party in their honor. I would omit any reference to the wedding at all, so as to avoid any appearance of the party being an attempt to get gifts, as if the couple wanted an exotic private wedding at the time, but now feel they missed out on gifts. Of course, people who didn't already send a wedding gift probably will bring them one anyway, but you don't want it to look like you are prompting them. Everyone you are inviting will understand that the party is in honor of their marriage, because you will only (I assume) be inviting people who are close enough that they know that the couple were recently married, and that's why you are doing it. You wrote "food will be served," but I don't know if that means a casual barbecue in your yard, a picnic lunch at the park, a tea dance at a country club, a brunch, snacks, or what. The games make it sound casual, but you also mentioned music and dancing. Once you decide on your plans, that of course will affect the text of your invitation. If it will be a casual evening barbecue in your yard, for example, you might word the invitation like this: Please join us for a cookout, dancing, and swimming in honor of [couple's names, including last name(s)] Sunday, June 34th 5:00 p.m. at our home 123 Sesame Street R.s.v.p. 555-5555 [or email@email.com, or omit if you are including a response card or trust your friends to respond without prompting!] Or, you could leave out "and swimming" and add "Bring your bathing suits for a swim" at the end, depending on what you want to emphasize as the tone of your party. It's not necessary to mention that games will be available. I don't think you need to specify attire, unless you want it black tie, which doesn't sound likely. If you feel you must, IMHO it is better to stick to "casual" or "dressy" or something rather than anything confusing like "festive attire." But I don't think you need to say anything: the style, color, and font of the invitation will get the message to your guests. (We went to 3 weddings this month. One invitation said "black tie optional," one said "cocktail attire," and one said nothing, but it was a rather formal looking invitation to a Saturday night wedding with dinner and dancing. The guests' attire was the same at all three of them! Well, no tuxedos at the last two, but the women at all of them wore dressy evening outfits, some long, some short, some pants.) Have fun.

Gellchom great post. If it was me, I'd probably put the wedding on hold until I knew for sure what was going on. Although it appears they have remained friends after the breakup, it's an uncomfortable situation for the bride. I don't see what the big deal is that she not go to the wedding either. Marriage is about give and take, compromise. This marriage doesn't appear to be starting off too well. The OP will always wonder about them, it's not going to go away. 4. She lives on the other side of the country. But my fiance had to spend about 1 month in her city for work, and would meet up with her a lot during this time. After he came back, he slipped up and called me by her name. That was probably the last straw that made me decide: I really don't like this girl. If it was me, I'd give him a week or 2 to decide who matters in his life. I would feel uncomfortable after that. Who knows if they reconnected, (not necessarily sex) and now wonder about their feelings for each other? Why is it so important she come? 5. To be fair, he doesn't talk with her much anymore, and he has cut back on talking with her a lot (compared to how much he did before we met) How do you know? Could he erase text messages? How about on the computer? IM? What about gaming? I'm not there (obviously) but from your post, I don't see how you 2 will be able to spend the rest of your lives together with her hanging over your relationship. Marriage is very hard and something like this makes it even harder.

If you have a paper wholesaler in your area, you can find a wide variety of papers at very reasonable prices. If you choose to do as Springbride did and have a printer print the invitations, choose a printer that specializes in working for small businesses, not a quick print place. A printer can do thermography, a raised print, that looks just like professional invitations. Most will use the paper of your choice, which makes the cost very reasonable.

I made ours... I hand cut, folded and glued envelopment cards (card with a flap on the inside) and then used the laser printer at work to print the invitations (on paper I got from Staples) as well as inserts (directions, R.S.V.P. cards, etc...) then hand cut and glued everything together. It was a lot of work, but I love them! :)

I learned that if you use a laser printer with the blank invitations, you need to let the printer go through its "cleaning cycle" (that moment where it stops printing and makes a whirring noise...) afetr each sheet or you will get rainbow colored toner streaks anywhere there is a raised pattern!!

We made ours for our wedding 7+ years ago. I used forest green crad w/ a grain, and cream card on top, so the green made a border. The print was done on high quality using a printer. I hand wrote the names using calligraphy.
Everyone loved them, it cost us about $30.
