1x4 is installed around the opening of windows before install?
Comments (6)I am in the process of replacing a window, in my 60 year old brick home. It too has 1x4's around the window openings. The brick comes within 3/4" of the 2x4 framing. The 1x4 adds another 3/4" - so there is 1 1/2" reveal for the brickmold. I'm using this 1 1/2" for the nailing flange on the window....See MoreAnyone have World of Windows windows installed?
Comments (5)That $229 is more likely to end up being around $350-400 installed. That $229 number will not cover any capping, removal of anything but wood windows, grids, etc. I have seen some situations where they will try to line item charge people for caulking and other items....See MoreSunrise Window quote
Comments (28)Hi Jimmy and All, Hope it's ok to add to this thread related to Sunrise windows. I had 3 2 wide double hung Sunrise windows installed in my basement a couple years ago in preparation for finishing the basement (I have an English basement). These were not named Verde/Vanguard/etc, line. I was told by this windows contractor that these are the same windows with certain minimum specifications and allows certain companies to be authorized for these named lines. These were not Sunrise lower line (can't recall Essentials or something??). I'm now looking to replace some of the original builder's grade vinyl windows in the upstairs - focusing on those that seem to have issues. I'm looking at these same windows with this same company (they also replaced/enlarged my kitchen window w/ Marvin). The related window specs I see are: "Install (3) two wide double hungs with 3/2 georgian style contour grills between glass Sunrise windows. Interior color white. Exterior color white. Windows include urethane foam filled frame with 7R value rating. Windows include white hardware and half extruded aluminum screens with fiberglass screening. Windows include Low E N2201A Ultra U Plus coating with argon glass filled air space exceeding energy start requirements. Doublehung windows include two locks over 26" wide. Window frame and sash include contoured appearance. window frame and sash allow for 27% more glass space than standard vinyl window. Doublehungs tilt easy to clean. Air filtration rating .02." Are there any other specifications I should be looking for? Should I find out what the exact Sunrise line is? These do all have lifetime warranty. Thanks!...See MoreWindow installation question/pricing
Comments (22)artemis1 - thanks for the feedback. Since my first quote was around $1K+ per window - I thought let me check out Renewal. Little did i know they were more than 2x. The $amount is just crazy - and really didn't like their sales tactics. $19K was crazy - that's just one floor, and I might want to do 2 other floors later on. The guy almost didn't want to leave until i sign a doc lol. I told him - a $19K purchase is not something I'll decide right there. Pella was similar although not as pushy. He priced only his top model - lifestyle & came up to $17K. I asked him - give me some option with bit lower model - "well vinyl wont work here, this thing wont work" etc etc. Not sure if he was making it up or not - he said the fiber glass model (maybe it was Impervia) would be even more expensive. Just got to the feeling he was trying to push one model-only lifestyle. Not sure why he claimed Pella vinyl won't work because I've transom on top - he said it would bend. But builder grade windows i have - i don't see any bending/warp or anything....See Morejustmee
