Poem for out of town guests gift baskets

Help, need a great poem for some gift baskets for the out of towners that come to the wedding. Wedding is Friday, June 4th! Help! We work better under stress!

I know there is someone out there with the words I need!

I did post on craft forum too.

What will you be putting in the baskets? That might help if you'd like the poem to be longer... Hope this helps! :-)

We never used a poem, just a letter from us welcoming them and giving them all the info for the weekend and phone numbers they might need. On the back, we drew a map with all the locations they would need.

I found the tax shelter in this posting when searching for a gift for my brother. He is a tax preparer and has everything. So I just had to share what I did for him. I took one of those woodcraft houses from Walmart- removed the two screws from the base. I cut a 1" block of wood that fit into the bottom of the house. I glued this block onto the base thus allowing the top of the house to be easily lifted off the base. I cut a 1/2" groove in the center of the block with the table saw so I could set a card of thumb tacks into it. This was hidden in the house until the top was lifted off. I wrote a poem for this & read it to him while my daughter did a Vanna White presentation of the house. Everyone got a good laugh out of this and I finally did a complete craft project! It's been a while. Hope you have as much fun with this as we did. Here's the poem: I drew your name for Christmas It's an honor, don't you know To get my brothers name for Christmas Ah! ashopping I will go. But then I started frettin After searching high and low Whatever will I get 'im (Twas wrong to worry so!) I went into an office shop Maybe something for your desk? I talked to the clerk a lot She tried to aid me in my quest. He could use a tax shelter Is what the lady said It seemed a bit off-kelter But there was nothing left instead. So here's your little shelter All painted so very nice The foundation has been mended The roofs' been polished thrice. The flowers are all blooming In the big pot by the door The bumblebees are buzzing And there's no sawdust on the floor. It seems to be the perfect place I do agree she's right It sure beats a plain old case And your tacks! They're finally safe at night!

There is a shopping list for chemo on the breast cancer forum. I've put the link below. There are a lot of OTC pharmacy items on it. Maybe a gift card for a pharmacy would be nice. The chemo infusions can take a few hours. I pack snacks or lunch and my preferred drink. Carbonated drinks can be nice on an uncomfortable stomach. My treat is a Martinelli's sparkling cider. A little ice chest or insulated bag to take food to chemo might be nice for the gift basket - I use one of the soft sided ones. On days when my stomach feels uncomfortable and my sense of taste is off, chicken or beef soup is one of the few things that tastes good and goes down easily. But I don't know if the colon being involved puts any additional restrictions on what she can eat. The American Cancer Society has a class called Look Good Feel Better that teaches how to put on make-up including drawing on eyebrows. It is free and they provide a bag of make-up for your skin tone - cosmetic manufacturers donate the make-up and it is nice stuff. I'm not much of a make-up person but I took the class to have it in case I need to dress up for something during chemo. Someone could offer to drive her to and from that class. Only the chemo patients are to stay for the class so whoever drives should expect to bring a book or something to keep them busy for the two hours. American Cancer Society often also provides free wigs. Sometimes they have the wigs at the office. Around here, they provide a voucher and send you to a wig place. I haven't used that service because I prefer hats and scarves and also if I wanted a wig I don't need help to get it. They also often have hats or scarves. It really is a crazy process when you think about it Mtnrdredux. I was dubious at first but it really has been wonderful for us. We love having them back for visits. Our first Au pair is in medical school and will finally be able to come back for a visit this upcoming summer. We are looking forward to it. I think the key is to outline your main criteria and screen screen screen. Stick to the must have's, do multiple skype interviews for mutually compatibility, etc. We also insist the new candidates talk to at least the last Au pair so they get the inside scoop. :) Despite all of that we did have one misstep and she went home (as opposed to rematch) We have also seen a lot of missteps among our Au pairs' friends over the years. I can't tell you how many times we have had an extra girl living with us for a few weeks as they sort out their situations and try to find a rematch! It must be so hard to be here without your family or friends around you. I can't even imagine. Their parents are always so appreciative, as are the girls of course, for a "comfortable, safe" place to stay as they work out their next steps. I am sure more then anyone wanted to know. But in case anyone is on the fence, it really can be wonderful for you and your kids. :)

When we arrived at a particular wedding, we had a gift basket in our room and a little bottle of wine with a sweet, hand-written note saying simply: "We want you to know how much it means to us that you chose to be with us at this special time. Thank you for attending!" (and signed with the Bride and Groom's names) I think it was the fact that it wasn't a 'confetti' card...even though it was a short note, it was special because it was hand-written. Near the basket was a fact page of the city, map to and from ceremony and reception, time-line, and what turned out to be a blessing, was a list of everyone else we knew who were staying in the same hotel, so that we could call each other and meet for cocktails!

Why do you need a poem? I would just have a small piece of paper that says "Welcome to (insert location)". Personally, I think the poem is too "cutesy" and, as someone else mentioned in another post, the words "our special day" make me roll my eyes! I really like the idea of a list of the other guests in the hotel as someone noted above. Sometimes I attend out of town wedding not just to see the bride and groom, but because of all the other friends and family who will be there as well!

Thanks to one and all. This was for my DS's girlfriend. She was amazed at how quickly the responses came in. Love my THS friends!

another vote for prose.

Poor prose! Such a lovely way to say so many truly wonderful things, and yet so many people reject it, in favor of poems, which are restricted to meter and rhyme! Not that meter and rhyme are bad, but theyr'e very restricting.

And Duckyhead, did you REALLY say "special day"? Eww, yuck! I tell you, I'm tired of adjectives: special, wonderful, etc.

How many people does she have? Maybe just write a note to each of them: "Frank & Joan--I'm so glad you could come be with us. I know it was a long trip, and I'm flattered you would travel that far for us." Or, "Susan: here's that great cheese I was telling you about--sorry I can't stop by the hotel, but we've got to grab a few minutes, just you and me. Come to the church early?"

or whatever is appropriate, even if it's just, "we're glad you could come, and we hope you're comfortable in the hotel."
