Share your Gift Basket ideas here

Thought it might be good to share gift basket ideas here. Those who need inspiration may find something someone else has done to just hit the spot!

I did a "hand grooming" gift basket for a coworker. I included seven (yes, seven!) fingernail clippers with "for the bathroom", "for the car", etc. tags on them (this woman was *always* borrowing my nail clippers). I also included some emery boards, cuticle clippers, etc. plus a few different sample-size hand lotions. I included a scented candle as well.

I've done housewares gift baskets, and I did a baby care gift basket as a gag gift for an unmarried male friend's 30th birthday.

I'm including a link to a site recommended on the Crafts & Decoration forum. This page lists a few gift basket ideas as well.

So - what kind of gift baskets have you given? What did you include? How was the gift received? Thanks for sharing.

Hi Allison, I love gift baskets.
On my webpage there are some I've made up for friends and family - I try to add a poem to make them more personal.
Feel free to use any of the ideas you find there.

For my son's birthday I'm making up a "Bottomless Pit basket" and filling it with his favorite junk foods, soft drinks and a toothbrush for after the pigout, and maybe a voucher for the video store.

I also want to sew up on of his favorite shirts that he's outgrown (an idea I saw somewhere & can't remember where) & make it into a cushion for his bed - you turn shirt inside out and sew up bottom and arm holes, turn the right way in and stuff with toy filler using the neck opening. Then sew up neck and it's done.

Here is a post for sugar shakers to make with kids that I posted a couple of years ago. Someone else on here gave me the idea to add cinnamon and now we call them 'cinnamon sprinkles'. We make these almost every year and my kids love it. I buy the cheapest generic salt and pepper shakers I can find. We make them in Christmas colors. Every child gets a bag with a cup of sugar, food coloring, and cinnamon to shake. Leave one bag without food coloring. It adds a little variety in the layering. Also, I find it helps to dry them in the oven a little while so it doesnt clump. It may need to be a two day project for the class. Keep a plate or bowl under the shakers when you are filling them to catch the spills. At the end, make a little tag saying to use the cinnamon sprinkles on hot buttered toast for cinnamon toast. Tie on with curly ribbon. It makes a nice gift because it is consumable and the kids do get to help with a majority of the work. Here is a link that might be useful: Sugar Shakers

I'm not nuts about gift baskets. When I get one, all that I think is how over priced they are. When we've gotten them in the past it was stuff no one usually eats. Having said that; we get different ones each year from my MIL. Last year & the year before she sent Harry & David fruits which ended up going to friends & compost. Last year's had pears which no one eats. Another year it was a few assorted fruits plus chocolate which gotten eaten more but still wasted. One year she sent ribs which we did eat. I'm not sure where she got them from. Is there a local pizza place he likes? Having a pie delivered to him might go over really well. You can also add a few sides like wings, mozzarella sticks. If he's into sports, perhaps something to do with his team. My hubby likes Dan Marino, he has an online store. If you could find one with quick shipping, it would get there in a few days.

I'm making a de-stresser basket for my sisiter in law for Christmas. Because she works at a school and is on her feet all day I am filling a foot fixer with lotions, foot creams, foot soaking powders to disolve in the foot fixer, aroma therapy candles and a gift certificate to her favorite book store. I love to make up theme ideas like this....much fun!
