That is crazy! I am sure you thought of this but my sister, as a wedding gift to us, had a duvet made out of two RL sheets with button closure. Really gorgeous. It was two different prints so I could change the look as I wanted.

That throw is gorgeous. Maybe not $575 worth of gorgeous, but still. I'm a sucker for plaid.

I was looking at this last night and was disappointed at the price point. I've got to see it in person before deciding, but wonder what the quality is on the tartan pieces. I assume they are printed cotton?

Thanks for posting the link. Everything is gorgeous, but with the prices, I guess I'd better stay with my vintage pieces from eBay.

The RL pillow prices make my custom pillows look like a bargain, even though mine included pricy designer fabrics, labor and designer fees. The stuff linked looked very dark and depressing.

When Ralph Lauren opened a home store here in the 80s I checked it out with my mother, who was re-doing my bedroom at home, after the dog died (he spent a lot of time in there).

It was much less expensive for her to go custom. We did a rough tally of everything in the "boys room" and it was something like $50,000 worth of furniture, bedding and accessories, and this was 25+ years ago. We were only looking at bedding and reupholstery, but it was still much cheaper to get something custom.

I find myself totally drawn to velvet, as though some tractor beam is reeling me in from outer space. Okay, maybe not that forcefully, :-) but I really like all the velvet in this collection.

I'm not even looking. I've liked Ralph Lauren's designs from the beginning, but this summer we had 3 sets of sheets (2 for DH and I and one for our son's bed) that shredded. Not ripped -- just shredded in the middle of the sheet. Happened on all three. I will never think of Ralph Lauren the same way and will certainly not pay the premium for any of the bedding.

We had an RL comforter and 2 bath towels that wouldn't die. Probably from the early/mid '90s. My mother had used them for years, passed them on to me and we used them for years. I only got rid of them because we cleaned out when we were transferred overseas for a few years.

I bought a heavy cotton RL king blanket at Ross 13 years ago for $20. Still love the design, still in use, but didn't take care of it with too many washings. Other than being faded, it is like new. Even his leather label is like new. Blanket Is one that they had used in his trailer transformation. Ebay is selling it for $450. This is when I wished I'd bought 3 or 4. Happens with clothes I love too. Of course a $1400 item would be another thing, but couldn't go there as it is.

OT...is there a way to brighten colors or bring them back again?

Not all RL is the same. They used to have a division of cheaper products (like Lauren Home and the sheets and stuff at Marshall's or Homegoods that are low thread count elastic on corner type sheets). Those are totally different from the RL collections. The quality to me is still extremely high, even if overpriced.

I do have a RL blanket that has been very nice. I've had towels I liked too. The sheets were not from a discount store -- they were pricey sateen and all three sets had problems. They are also the most recent purchases and I'm not taking another chance -- not for a while at least. Though I do think the ice bucket is cool (no pun intended). It wouldn't rip either. ;-)

Check out the RL outlet fr better pricing. I also buy my comforters from TJMaxx my son has the back watch collection for a paltry $40 on clearance. The sheets are usually $40-$100 depending on thread count.

I have had the same problem with sheets I purchased from the RL store on line. Very disappointed and I would be hesitant to purchase again. I think if you were to purchase in person you would be able to tell. The ones I purchase from macys were thicker. It was a different design. Same pricing though.

I purchased the tartan duvet this morning with a 10% discount code, so I should have it shortly (they have only 106 in stock at the corporate warehouse I was told).

I'm having a bed-wide bolster made out of this fabric below, and will likely have all else in neutrals (I cannot spend $1400 on a velvet quilted bedspread but the simplicity (not color) of it is what I'm looking for). I'll keep you posted for sure on what everything looks like.

Today's sheets cannot make it as long as older sheets. Things that can help are front load washers. I was told that a lot of sheets tear (mine did it with my feet while in bed) are stress put on them by the agitator in standard washers and stretching them to pull them out of the washer. I think that's BS to some extent, and that it's really just because the sheets are softer cotton which is more fragile. But I don't like sleeping on scratchy cardboard, so I deal with it. That being said, I don't use RL sheets.

Kevin, I think that will be gorgeous. You have a way with decorating!

By the way, I took your advice, got the Thomasville sofa w/nail heads and "reinforced" seating. It is so comfortable and both DH and I are so happy with it! I was a little leery of the quality being that it is made in China, but it has met our expectations 100%. We also got a media center made in the USA, happy with that also.

I do have a front loader and that's the only thing my sheets were ever washed in.

Prior to the RL sheets, I had one set of Italian damask sheets develop a tear, but DH liked them so much we had them on the bed constantly for a long time. They were also a very high thread count and I think I read somewhere that the very high thread count requires finer threads so they may not last as long. Too bad -- they were great. The RL were not as high a tc.

I like your bolster fabric and can really see that with a velvet. Very rich.

I had to reorder in a queen. I have had numerous king size duvets before and they're always the right size, but this one is too big. I realized that I now have a Tempurpedic and a low profile box spring, which drastically cut down on what width you need. So I'm waiting for the new size.

The crazy thing is that RL website has the duvet for $425 when Saks is doing a pre-order (it won't be available at Saks until mid October just like Bloomingdales) for $300 with free shipping. The shams are basically the same price on both. I'm calling RL to complain today because that's an insane difference, and having now seen it in person, I'm not sure it's worth $425. It's nice, as RL stuff always is, but it's just cotton. It's still made in China.

The bolster pillow will be ready in two weeks, and I've decided on the quilt or bedspread that I'm going to use. I just went to Country Curtains (the same place that I bought the velvet panels before having the trim sewn on), and they sell coordinating bedding colors. So I thought the quilt/bedspread in the same sort of color as the drapes was a good idea. Ever other one I saw was too cream or khaki colored.

The ends of the bolster will be the same velvet as the drapes.

I don't you won't want to do this, but I have to mention that the whole RLL Skating Party king duvet set is available on eBay. I'll link one set below. There is a more expensive one available, too.

I understand. My instinct would be to buy the king set and have a seamstress custom fit it for my bed.
