Bedroom Color Ideas Linens and Pain Colors

This fall/winter we will be having a professional come in to remove old wallpaper from our bedroom. I will need to pick a paint color. Here is the deal...we have dark walnut colored woodwork (not the fancy kind). This is a 70's vintage house. I love white woodwork but am not up to the task of painting ALL of the trim in the house so I need a paint color that looks good with the dark wood. I am partial to lavender but I am open to other ideas. I would love to see pictures of decorated rooms with dark woodwork if you have any. Some have suggested that I start with the bedding and choose the wall color from there. Bedding ideas would be great too.

Hi there, fellow Wisconsinite!

Lots of colors look great with dark woodwork. Have you thought about a pale shade of blue or aqua? I agree that it's best to choose your bedding first.

As for bedding sources, I like Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, JC Penney, and Kohl's. Recently, I purchased new bedding from Neiman Marcus, and while on the pricier side, the quality is excellent.

I definitely suggest picking your bedding first. You can match paint to almost anything. I think all colors look good with truly dark wood. If the wood has more of an orange tint, then you have to be a little more careful depending on whether you are trying to blend the trim with the walls or allow it to stand out from the walls.

I'd go with a soft yellow...that denim blue and yellow look fab together and a really soft yellow may be neutral enough for him.

You can see if any of them pulled up a blue you think looks interesting.

Thank you Ingrid! Love the color accent choices and especially the terracotta idea. Maybe I can Incorporate the color with the bedding and pillows. Looking into artwork. Would the headboard be light or dark if the furniture is black?

I agree also to pick your bedding first. I don't have dark trim, but I do have dark furniture and accents of lavendar. I find lavendar works well with shades of green. My wall color is RH Sycamore Green which I find very restful; though, if you like green there are other similar colors your could test out before settling on an exact shade.

For bedding I like Pottery Barn, JC Penneys, Home Decorators, and The Company Store. If you can, search around for an inspiration picture and go from there. What I've done with my room is to use the ivory matalasse coverlet as my foundation piece which gives me the flexibility to change my duvet and pillows over time or even seasonally. If you check the Pottery Barn website, you can even find out the wall colors they used with the bedding. Also, you need to take into account your floors when choosing a paint color. Are they hardwood or carpet?
