Tell me the good, bad and ugly about cats!
Comments (78)Thanks to you all for posting the pic for me! natal, Thanks! I had to postpone the vet appt to Tuesday. My dryer quit working and had to get it fixed that day. sable, I will definately ask the vet if it could possibly be asthma. She still does it a lot! Funny thing about her, I was ready for her to be a "talker" since she is a siamese mix, and she hardly talks! Maybe she will as she gets older? bestyears, she is doing great with my son! She still loves my DH the best though. My son wants to carry her around, when she would rather be sleeping, I think. He sometimes picks her up when she's in her little post (in the pic), asleep. tjerrilynn, that is the CUTEST thing I have ever seen! I love his (or her) haircut! marlene, thank you and I am glad to hear about the male and female cats together. I am going to seriously start looking for another one. betsyhac, your cats are so pretty and full-figured-LOL! June is on the skinny side now, and I'm guessing she will be until she gets out of the kitten stage. I wonder what she will look like when she's all mature! She plays with us a lot now, and is very curious. She loves to lay on her back and let us rub her belly until she falls asleep, so cute! I got a hooded kitty litter box and she likes it, thank goodness! It has been much easier to keep clean around the box now. I put one of those rubber (I think) kind of pads down in front of her box as she walks out and it has made such a difference, plus the hood on the box. She has Softpaws on her nails right now, baby blue to match her eyes! We just love her!...See MoreWho gets to decide???
Comments (28)In possible defense of mom, I tend to agree that we should not all just buy in to this notion that everyone with crooked teeth "needs" braces. Yes, if they are bad enough to make it difficult to brush and floss, I can see the point. If it is primarily cosmetic, I really don't see how it's particularly different from a nose job or a boob job; a not-insignificant amount of pain for the purpose of making you physically closer to "perfect" in appearance. You may not agree, but accepting your physical "imperfections" as "having character" rather than "fixing" them is a perfectly legitimate value for a parent to try to impart to their teenage child. If it matters (judge my motivation as you will), yes I have crooked teeth, braces were financially not an option as a teenager although I really didn't want them anyway, I chose against them as an adult when they became financially an option, and I don't in the slightest regret not having them either time. All things being equal, sure I'd rather have straight teeth, but not badly enough to put myself through two years of braces in order to get them. And since I wouldn't do it to myself, I'd have a hard time justifying doing it to a child in my care who was saying she didn't want them....See MoreMangosteen in Southern California
Comments (45)The problem with the Los Angeles plant is that it wasn't in perfect healthy going into winter. It didn't have many leaves to start with. If the experiment fails..you will still wonder if a healthy plant would survive since we have had a extremely mild winter for lows so far. El Nino has bumped up night temps....See MoreHave you ever been given the wrong medicine?
Comments (42)Oakley, sorry you're going thru this. As bad as it is, it could have been a lot worse :( Yes, I've been given the wrong medication but even worse, the wrong medication was given to my daughter when she was just a child. But, being the proactive type, I always check meds before taking them. Before the Internet and Google, I used a PDR to reference drugs. It was the same pharmacist both times. I tore into him when he gave my daughter the wrong medication and complained to the store management. This guy seemed to be on too many drugs himself! Found out later there were many complaints against him and soon after he was fired. Being in the hospital is so darn dangerous anymore (well has been for many many years). Superbugs, overworked staff, staff on drugs, under educated staff...you can't leave a loved one in the hospital by themselves. Someone needs to be their advocate. DH has been in the hospital exactly 2x. The first was for a crushed heel. The care (or lack of) and staff was so atrocious I spent most of my time in the administrator's office :o I later filed a complaint with the state board of health and after reviewing my complaints and finding them valid, they zeroed out his bill. The 2nd time was for a double bypass. EXCELLENT care this time around in a much better hospital (Louis and Peaches Heart Hospital in Tyler, TX). Everyone from the janitorial crew to the surgeon and his cutting edge bypass procedure and the sharp as a tack nurturing and caring nurses. You would have thought he was their only patient. I've been taking pro-biotics daily for a few years. There is no doubt in my mind they prevent all kinds of illnesses. A happy gut full of good bacteria is a good thing :) I have a friend that got C-diff in the hospital. Hers became so bad she needed the bowel transplant. My mother also contracted it in the hospital, I think during an oblation for A-fib. She didn't have the bowel transplant but it took her months to get over it....See Moredenali2007
