Ok, newbies, here's how it's done LOL

I've been piddling with these, need a shot in the hiney!

This is the mirror with the unsanded grout- I want to do a bigger one, too to hang on my shed.

AND this mirror has a story. The actual mirror was my father's. My mother exiled him to the basement to shave because he was too messy! LOL (two of the biggest neatniks ). It had a crummy metal frame. I put it in a plastic frame,a friend was going to get rid of from her estate sale. The little swirly thing came from the same place. The same friend bought some cups on ebay and they came broken, so she gave them to me!

This is my third mushroom, Tedious as all heck. I'm thinking of popping some of the glass off and putting random blobs. I have some clear ones that should show the light. Anyway, it looked cool with the sun shining!

Still working on this!! I have to cut and tumble more glass, but it's coming along.

I just wanted to say that... I have no clue on grout colors, what about ivory for the mirror? Oh I love that bin!

What NT said. WOW - you're working on more than I could handle at one time. LOVE that bin - not - I LOVE IT ALL. Charcoal is my new favorite grout.

I do have a white garden a section of the whole garden, if you don't count the coral Lycoris radiata in August nor the pink Crinum that I cannot kill nor the Spring and Fall crocus. It is unlike Vita's in that hers included many grey leaved plants to extend the effect. My leaves are an emphatically green background for the flowers, Taxus media, Vinca minor (white flowered), Nandina (white berried), Daphne odora marginata, Skimmia japonica (white berried), and the various leaves of flowering plants, roses, ('Katharina Ziemet', 'Blanc Double de Coubert', 'Sombreuil', 'Ilse Krohn Superior', 'White Pet', 'Mlle de Sombreuil', and 'White Maman Cochet' - 'Bolero' died but will be replaced in multiples), Helleborus niger, H.xhybridus and bulbs, Tulipa 'Purissima', Narcissus 'Thalia' and Colchicum autumnalis alba. The Gardenias, Citrus trees and Tabernaemontana grandiflora (an unfussy gardenia relative) reside in this patio garden in the summer so I guess that's more white. Cath

Yeah, varieties have frequently fallen victims to the shameless manipulations of seed vendors that could care less about keeping uniformity and in some circumstances have "created" variety "exclusives" for marketing purposes and accidentally or purposefully added to the confusion, or have a cash cow variety and breed into it some additional traits but still refer to it as the old name to capitalize on its following under the guise of being "improved" (when they may have messed up the parents in some cases too lol). In the case of 'Goliath' it appears extreme: this name does not refer to a single strain, variety or whatever description we get thrown at us to make a sale. It seems like it is a "series" of "strains" leveraged off the name of a tomato that may once have been known as a hybrid tomato variety named 'Goliath', itself an early maturing derivative of the popular 'Big Beef' hybrid that has great production and was developed by a friend at Petoseed in the years before the Mexican buyout. Check out the 2017 catalog of Seeds and Such: Catalog link. In there, J. Wayne Hilton's discusses the Goliath hybrid which suggest to me it was possibly a European adaptation from the parentage of Big Beef, he says: “When I founded the company ‘Totally Tomatoes’ in 1993 ... and in 1995 I introduced Goliath (Indeterminate, 65 days), a European version of Big Beef, with gorgeous, blemish-free, bright red fruits, weighing 10-15 ounces and endowed with a perfect balance of acids and sugars to give it that old-timey, real-tomato flavor. After I sold Totally Tomatoes in 1999, the new owners changed Goliath to the “Pio” strain to gain even more productivity. But the ‘Pio’ strain of Goliath is not as round and uniform as the previous strain I first introduced. The current strain ‘Pio’ [DTM 70] further refines the original Goliath to add more productivity, better disease resistance and greater adaptability ..." Hilton also lists the 'old fashioned' Goliath 'Beef Maestro' variety [78 DTM], the Goliath 'Jubilation' yellow one [70 DTM] you probably got, and then the Goliath 'Boy-O-Boy' strain [75 DTM], which all seem to be newer additions to the "Goliath series". To be honest, it sounds like a bunch of gobbledygook to me and between that an Totally Tomatoes listing 'Pio' as the original 65 DTM, I would run away from that. But if you really must find out, email Hilton at the address given in the catalog as he is the one who probably knows best what is going on if he chooses to kindly share it with you. Add to that that there is an open pollinated variety 'Goliath' you can get from TGS claimed to be an unrelated 1800's Pennsylvania pink OP heirloom at this link: Goliath 85 DTM pink 'heirloom' and there is a Bush Goliath and an open pollinated version of that one, as well as an open pollinated version of one of the Goliath hybrids from Marianna's called Goliath Red: Marianna's link to 75 DTM OP Goliath derived from some Goliath F1 of Big Beef parentage. I hope this helps you not lose the farm. Personally, I would go for Big Beef F1 (73 DTM) and not touch that Goliath of a mess with a ten foot pole. I know some people get a hankering for a variety name, but as you can see, varieties come and go and between falling from use, bogus marketing, and those who really care, it is sometimes like being stranded on a rowboat in the middle of the ocean, springing leaks to keep track of what is going on. @AndrewK I wish I could offer some significant help, Andrew. However you are way ahead of us on getting your head around what is needed. Thanks for uploading bigger images. I still find it hard to see your floor plan (not liking Houzz for image posting). Your quote does seem reasonable, based on a few low voltage quotes we received (our plans were less involved, but for many items we were quoted higher than you -- atlas that is typical in Canada). Have you looked over the thread called "Things that get forgotten". I believe it is back on page one of the building a new home forum. It has many important reminders to get in place before the walls are closed up (including some on wiring and a few on home automation). Let me know if you have found any other online sites helpful in your quest on seeking info on home automation. @amoopen1: Can you elaborate more on your advice. I am trying to learn what I can on pre-wiring for future needs. For example can you explain in more detail what you meant by: "I have learned from many different forums that you can't have enough Cat6 drops. My plan is to run 2-3 drops at each TV location in addition to the coax". AND "The easiest way to have full control with minimal switches is to panelize the high voltage for the lights". All: I am very interested in what others' have learned about lighting scene controls. We have planned some very nice, multi-layered lighting. I have read way too much on designing lighting, and know that those light scene controls would really allow us to maximize the use of all of our lighting to the best effect. We had a false start Saturday, but 3/4 done right now and super happy! So glad ABB is almost a memory. I will post a shot without grout when they leave and another in a few days with the grout. Going with mapai white still and will use the keracaulk as advised. Thank you again. Anyone who is considering this tile - we have no regrets. It would go well with greens, grays, whites, blacks, and tans. It wouldn't interfere with a busy countertop (IMHO) and has enough variation to give some interest to our essentially solid black counter and white cabinets. A small number of tiles have imperfections, but they are the ones being cut for ends and corners, so not really wasted much.

Wow!! Shrty, that bin is sooo pretty! I love everything about it. You find some of the greatest stuff to add on.
Really terrific!!!! Great projects. I wish I could find my groove again!

WOW! The colors on that bin are WONDERFUL! AND... I like the things you have imbedded in it! LOVE IT!

Shrty, I love it all. I'm impressed that you knew to recycle that mirror that has so much meaning. The mushroom is dazzling and the vegetable bin is beautiful! I love those bins.

Slow, why is charcoal your new favorite color? I was surprised when you chose it for your bathroom counter over black. Just wanting to know how great minds think. : )

D3- Gray shows off ALL colors well, letting the colors shine instead of grout. While I LOVE black for most things, it blacks out dark colors too much. For my bathroom, I wanted the darks to show - dark green of the vine and the purple mirror tiles, which look black. Great minds??? You like charcoal also? What is your favorite color grout?

NICETHYME- Its a backasswards way to keep me motivated.LOL. I started the bin, then the weather got nice, so I've been concentrating on the yard and outside stuff. Yesterday was COLD and rainy and I did some on it. The mushroom in the 3rd I wanted to do. The first were quick, but this is tedious and geting on my nerves, so I thought I'd do the mirror for something quick. Now, I have to fix up the grout so.... Anyway at this point I want to get them ALL done and start something new!! Strange logic, I know.

HAZIE- I wish you'd get your groove back, too! I miss your beautiful work!Have you tried something small?

KATE- on the blue on the top, the round thing with the berries was a decorative mold. In front, I took a small blue bowl, cut it in half and piled on blue half marbles. The bottom handle I cut off a cup.
On the green one, the thing on top is a suncatcher I picked up at a TS last year. The front is a small plaque with raspberries. The round things an the sides are center of plates. All TS finds.

Motivation - me - turn it off. Was happily sitting on my patio after shower/shampoo and sooooooo tired I could hardly BREATH, and was looking at a concret block I stuck near the fountain w/an empty plastic pot on top waiting for me to take time to plant an Impatient that ROSIE gave me, and had to come inside to keep myself from grabbing the concrete block, taking it to the workshop and start glueing on shards. I'm going to stack two/three blocks, mosaic the fronts, fill the holes on the sides w/soil, plant Impatiens in the holes on the sides, spray paint the plastic pot w/Krylon and plant the biggy Impatient. Motivation! Turn it OFF or give me another lifetime. Wish I didn't have to sleep.

Oh, Slow can't wait to see the finished blocks.

Slow, I have been using a LOT of blue and turquoise grouts because I have been doing a lot of sea/ocean scenes. I have used black twice and have a hard time adjusting to it. My DH loves it. I think I will try charcoal soon after you explained why it would look good. Thanks!

Hey, Maria, just saw this thread. I REALLY like the bins! We have a commercial berry farm, and grow both raspberries and blueberries here (as well as strawberries, blackberries, and a bunch of vegetable crops)so those bins really appeal to me. I like the mirror also, would like to do one some day. Nice work!

Thanks Veronica! I was trying for a fruit/ veggie theme, but it seemed the fruit was easier to find.

MAD- you are SO right. I put some blobs on yesterday and it looked like my mushroom had the pox LOL!! I pried them all off today ( all I had time for, I got hijacked to help at the school this morning).

WOW Maria,

Great projects. I recognize the broken cups pattern. Too bad for her and wonderful you were able to make something of them. Line me up for loving the green bin too. I loved your blue one and am drooling over the green one. Would be perfect in our bathroom.

Wow Maria,
Since your garage sale ended, you have been a busy beaver! You have gotta love being able to work in your garage again and not have to clean up your mess when you finish for the day.

I love your mushrooms and mirror, but I really, really love your bins, especially the green one!
We will have to set up a day to go to that tile store you mentioned.
