Comparing Marvin, Pella, Anderson, Lincoln and Sierra Pacific
Comments (9)Thank you for the feedback. I am concerned re Pella standing behind its warranty in the event of window failure. My concerns are based on posts I've read re other people's experience as well as the Pella dealer warning that we should have them install as Pella would void its warranty should the contractor not strictly follow the required install instructions. Of course, his quote is 10 - 15k higher than Marvin's, and we can't afford it. We do like the product itself though, and the options available. eal51 - you're right. The cost savings offered by Anderson do not justify reframing the windows. I just received the written quote and realized the additional labor costs to cut down and fill in the windows account for almost $3,000 of the total cost - money that could be going towards the product itself. I was hoping for feedback on Lincoln, which appears to be a well-made window with many options similar to Marvin and Pella. This isn't our "forever" home, but we would like a quality window that functions well and also adds value to the home for future resale, and without breaking the bank! Thanks again for your comments....See MoreMarvin Sliding door vs Anderson/Pella
Comments (3)I have used both Anderson and Pella. With in the last year we installed Pella windows and patio doors. We used Pella to match up with other windows and doors which we had installed 8 years ago. Current Pella production does not even come close to what we had previously bought. In fact it was down right disgusting! Four service calls in two months and still issues. If you can use it, Anderson makes a great french patio door which seals like no tomorrow! We have used them on two different houses. In fact during a hurricane a few years ago, the river came over it's bank and literally splashed against the door, no leaks of any kind. From current experiences I would use Anderson over Pella any day. Have never used Marvin, but understand they make a quality product. Paul...See MoreSierra Pacific, Lincoln or Marvin Windows?
Comments (37)I had SP replace 3/4 of my windows about 8 years ago.. I did not like the process - buy windows, get installer, get person to paint trim inside and out. But we did it and had and have one problem - one window is wobbly when you crank in and out. Also the SP salesman was not knowledgeable and did not let us know that a slider to replace our french doors would be much smaller than opening. That was disappointing. Installer is no longer "around". We have had two seals break and they were replaced with no problem under SP warranty. Now I want to replace the other windows (above grade basement ones and a family room window that was in great shape and now should be replaced.) Well, I just don't get the "process" - they give you the name of one installer and he gives you a price for windows and install. Should I just find my own installer or use the one they "sent me". How do you check and find good contractors? Also is it important all my windows match on the outside? From the inside they will not be in the same View - but will be visible from the outside in the back.... one SP on 2nd and 3rd floor and possible a Pella or Marvin or a SP on ground/basement level. Any help would be appreciated......See MoreDon't buy Anderson, Stay away from Pella, forget Marvin!
Comments (16)I am a commercial contractor in Florida. My last home had Pella Architect series throughout. 10 years and 8 months in the home, and we discovered the bottom rails in approximately 75% of the windows had rotted. Our house had casement and French doors throughout. We had two French Doors that the bottom of each had rotted. The only way we found out that our windows and doors had failed was the magnets for our alarm system fell out. The alarm monitor said “zone faulted” When I called the Pella representative in Orlando, I was told that had we called a year earlier, they would have warranted the windows. The frustrating thing was since we live in Florida, it's typically to hot to open the windows so we would never have known if not for our security system. After some investigation into the windows, it became known that Pella knew this issue was a problem for quite a few years. According to one of their installers, they had been testing windows for 6-8 years in south Florida because of the numerous failures. Soon I will be purchasing approximately $150,000.00 worth of windows. I am leaning toward PGT casement windows. I think vinyl and aluminum both have their advantages....See Morejuddgirl2
