When to arrive?

My DH and I are going to travel to his niece's wedding some 1700 miles from home. I am trying to figure out when to get there. We are invited to the rehearsal dinner the night before. If we want to spend a day or so extra there, should we arrive early or stay later?

I'm thinking that folks will be more relaxed afterwards. Of course the newlyweds would be headed to their honeymoon, but everyone else would be there afterwards. What do folks here think?

Only you can answer that....depends on how many family members and friends you will want to see....and if some of them are coming from afar.
You need to call those you want to visit and see what's best for them.

I agree with Linda. A family event can be a great time to connect with extended family and friends. I would contact as many as possible ahead of time and find out when they plan to arrive and then plan accordingly. I would also try to arrange for as many as possible to stay at the same hotel, so you can visit even more in the evenings and early in the morning.

The bride's parents will probably be more available after the wedding. If you have time, you might arrive a day or two early to visit with extended family, then stay an extra day to spend time with the bride's parents.

The old rule of thumb here in KC, and it holds fairly true, is you never put out annuals till after Mothers Day. I have seen light frosts in the 2nd week of May. Two years ago it went down to 16F. -8.89C. the 2nd week of April which pretty well did everything in that was leafed out. When trees leafed out on the second buds the growth was weird some of it being leggy and other leaf growth large. All pines lost new candles. I just looked at your home page. Your pictures are fantantic. For some reason I thought mctavish was male. Guess again!! We're a zone 4 here. I was hoping with the crazy warm weather we had the beginning of this winter that we would be upgraded to a zone 5!!! No such luck these last couple of weeks. Negative temperatures with no snow cover. We'll probably lose more plants because of it. On 04/22/206 I had some dafodils blooming in the sunny part of my garden. I have two in my yard as of May 15th! We just moved to the area (Kemptville) and I'd heard they're visitors, so I put out my feeders on the 6th (or thereabouts). I see the male and female a few times an evening when I look out the window. They buzzed me last night as I was covering my annuals. What amazing birds!

Mine were here last month around the 28th,29th,came home to find my Mt. Ash tree all lacey on the top half.I was so upset about that since my Mt. Ash is one of my favorites! I knew they were around but up until then,they were only a few. They must have known that we'd be out of town and they moved in fast.I am so glad they didn't find my Crepe Myrtle,only a few were muching on that. Ugh ! I really,really hate them! My Crepe is just about starting to bloom and I was in a state of panic earlier this week when I spotted a few on it.Last year was the worst for the Crepe. The Weeping Cherry is holding its own.
