Marda, you brought back memories by sharing yours---- I used to dance the Polka with my Mom, too. We'd whirl around the restaurant floor, around and around! I could never dance it with a boy, though--- we'd get all tangled up and laugh! Mom and I would waltz together, also....happy sigh... Gandle, this sure is a fun post; thanks!

It came about when I saw that the Sr.Ctr. was giving lessons and they showed a photo of the participants and they looked like they had fun and that they were about our age (70+). It looked like fun. I'm not redy to join a class yet, but I did order a DVD and that should arrive in a few days. In the meanwhile, I've downloaded a video and I'm having fun learning how to dance.Glad to say that it seems that my brain and feet still work together.

What was your mother/son dance song at your son's wedding?

Son had a large wedding and reception but because it was in the afternoon, no dancing. But if we did have a song it would be Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me." His small high school graduating class sang that to the parents then they gave the mom's a rose. Talk about crying! DIL knows what a close knit family we are and she loves how close I am to my son's. Now that she's a mother of a son she really understands the special bond between son and mother which is not like the old saying goes, "A son is a son until he takes a wife, a daugther is a daughter for the rest of her life." Heck, I still get onto my children! I'll always remember Barbara Bush speaking about Jr., "Just because he's the President doesn't mean he can put his feet on my coffee table!" lol

This one just came to me as an earworm and I HAD to post it. I guess those of us of a certain age.... and possibly geographic location will know this one.

Choose something that has meaning to the two of you, not something all-purpose. If it were my son's wedding, it would probably be "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," because we both love baseball. What would mean something to YOU?

Congratulations!!!

I want a girl just like the girl that married dear, old dad. -- an oldie, but I don't know the name of it.

Yeah, I wouldn't go with that song unless the bride IS like the girl that married dear old dad (and even if she is not too many woman want to be told they are "just like" their MIL). Nothing like offending the bride at her own wedding.

My son asked if he could pick out the music and he selected "Have I told you lately that I love you?" by Rod Stewart. I was touched by his choice and it was a great dance we had.

My dd is having trouble picking a song for me and her fiance to dance to. She is picking "Daughters" for the father/daughter dance. Any suggestions?
