Ideas for Mirror panels?

These are 6 feet long, and about 8 inches wide, with holes on either end and beveled edges. They were popular to put up on walls in the 80's to make rooms look wider. They were at my house when I moved in, and I still don't have a clue what to do with them. Any ideas?

JUNKYARDGIRL, I am very sorry but I have no clue as to what you might do with the mirrors......but the beveled edges sound so nice. How many do you have.? I have tried to think of possibilities, but the only thing which is not that innovative, is to put molding around them, almost like a painting......it really depends on how many you have?

I have four. I just don't have a clue either what to do with them, or I would have done it by now! LOL

I did say some faux stained glass on one site, and thought maybe I could do some panels with them, or paint some scene on them and hang them in the living room. I've gone to craft fairs and everywhere and haven't seen anyone who has done anything with mirrors like this.

How about a table top for one with the reflection of candles on the glass panels or put glass or plexiglass over the whole surface and build a box under the original glass panel to hold a collection of small artifacts. Maybe a large folding room divider. A folding back drop for garden art. Weave some wire over and use for garden trellis. How about attaching several together and painting, decoupaging or cover the glass with padded fabric and trim around fabric and use as a head board? Possibly use at side of windows for window treatment - maybe paint them or treat as above. Use as a support for a large painting. Put mirror in place of glass and in each panel, hang or prop against MBR or dressing room wall. Possibly hinge and use as doors on open bookshelves or build bookshelf to the size of the door(s) and have a gorgeous armoire. Build kitchen island, computer table or workbensch out of them, using the panels for the sides or in place of end legs. Put them on a slider track to cover your patio doors. Replace any light weight doors in your home. Make a side board, kitchen or craft table with glass on top of the door table top. Panel a small study or dining etc. wall with them. Go ahead keep the knobs, you can always find something to hang on a door knob. Criss cross ribbon, belts, twine, rope or whatever on it and use it for a message board in kitchen or study. Back the glass with a picture of your liking, a dried pressed floral arrangement or your favorite word or phrase in large caligraphy. That's it, I'm brain dead. G'nite. jan

I just read about this in the Dec 07 BH&G mag, the pic is fantastic. It looks so lovely. I think if you don't have a real long table you could even use a good size round mirror on a round table, with or without a frame and it would just as lovely. Thank you so much everyone! I am overwhelmed with everyone's support and great ideas. I think the room is beautiful but awkward because it is not square but rather rectangular and off center. It is hard to tell from the photos I suppose, but the sectional is centered with the TV above the fireplace which leaves a large open area where the book shelves and bench are located. I would have loved to move the shelving unit behind the couch but if I center it behind the couch then half of the living room sits empty? I don't think any amount of art by the windows could make it look right. The sectional was probably not the right choice of furniture for the room but it suits our family functionally. Do I love the mosaic mirror panels? Yes! Do i think they are generic? Yes. Would I prefer an art piece I love? Absolutely. I may hang them for the time being until I find something in the future. Right now, original art is out of my price range. I looked up the etsy link Wsimons85 posted, but the art in that size would be $1500. Honestly, though an abstract art piece would work well, it doesn't excite me. Maybe one day I will find something I love and by then my entire living room will look different! Home Interior with Ease, I can't believe you remember my original living room and what it looked like!! Yes, I have come a long way. I actually really like those feather pictures but I believe they are not tall enough for what I was looking for. They are 38 inches in height vs the 48 inches the current mirror panels. By the way, the mosaic mirrors are from Pier 1, for Sara Sitardites. Thanks again everyone!

Ideas for paint/finishes for this wood paneled bathroom?

paint the paneling and mirror trim white, (c below for how to) and the walls a coordinating color. do a less heavy looking light and one that is not curved. try some new hardware. (do a glass knob on the mirror (after you paint it!) try some art or simple shelves over the toilet plants do a lot when you're ready, this is a cute before/after you already have the paneling, take advantage of it. Make sure to give it a good cleaning, fine sand it (with 220,) wipe w/mineral spirits, then apply a coat of oil base primer (I like Zinsser), fine sand again (220-320) wipe clean. NOW you can paint. I'd use a satin finish bathroom paint.

If you have a bookcase six feet wide they would be nice on the back of each shelf to reflect the objects on the shelves. Or I like the idea of being used as a table runner. I think it would be great to paint on them by laying them one above the other. Continue the design from the bottom up and hang them that way above a dresser or credenza. Or as a backsplash depending on the size of space you have.

I purchased a home once where the previous owner had mounted mirror panels on a wall side by side with about six inches between each mirror. We loved it and just let it that way.

1) remove every other panel, and update the look
2) freecycle ;)
3) I like the idea of using them to line the back of display shelves.
4) I got two from a friend who chose option #1, and use them as a quick-check mirrors - one is outside the master bath, one in the walk-in closet (I refuse to dignify the room by calling it a '3rd bedroom' as it isn't big enough to fit even a twin sized bed, and still shut the door)

I think they might look nice if they were framed and then covered in half marbles or stained glass. Of course, it would be really heavy.

I had my DD cut and put mine in an old window
frame. It's hanging on my laundry room wall.

I would probably take them down and use them in craft projects if they didn't fit behind the bookcase. That would make your room look much larger using them that way,like windows behind the bookcase:) But if you aren't going to use them as mirrors, I'd go with Mayme and cut them down for an old window. I have seen some beautiful things made with old mirrors, where they scrape some glass off and add a picture to show through that part, it looked Victorian/Shabby Chic.
