Ideas for Mirror panels?

These are 6 feet long, and about 8 inches wide, with holes on either end and beveled edges. They were popular to put up on walls in the 80's to make rooms look wider. They were at my house when I moved in, and I still don't have a clue what to do with them. Any ideas?

JUNKYARDGIRL, I am very sorry but I have no clue as to what you might do with the mirrors......but the beveled edges sound so nice. How many do you have.? I have tried to think of possibilities, but the only thing which is not that innovative, is to put molding around them, almost like a painting......it really depends on how many you have?

I have four. I just don't have a clue either what to do with them, or I would have done it by now! LOL

I did say some faux stained glass on one site, and thought maybe I could do some panels with them, or paint some scene on them and hang them in the living room. I've gone to craft fairs and everywhere and haven't seen anyone who has done anything with mirrors like this.

Thanks marcolo. I think I'll go over there w/ a big mirror and make DF stand where the appliance cabinet will go and I'll stand in the breakfast nook and see what is reflected because that is where most time will be spent, I think. mtnrdredux- I originally wanted a range and I agree with you completely that it would look much better! I looked at the fratelli onofri in blue and was very, very close to buying it, but I didn't like the brass. And I think a lacanche (or even its cheaper friends) might be a bit of a waste in a kitchen where no one cooks. In general, though, I didn't love the whole idea of the range w/ the low ovens either. Like I said, we do use the ovens to reheat b/c DF won't use the microwave or eat microwaved food. I don't want to bend down to get stuff in and out, and I really do not like the idea of a low-to-the-ground range with a really sniffy little doggy who sticks his snout everywhere. I'm afraid he'd get hurt when the range opened and I won't take any chances on that. And I know I'd have snouts pressed against oven glass and possibly paws scratching the door if he smelled something cooking (and being a beagle, of course, he'd always smell anything cooking!) So, it is ovens for me. Plus, we already bought 'em (a 42 inch miele cooktop only b/c it was a floor model and we got it cheaper than most of the "low end" cooktops) and the floor model jenn-air ovens.

I just read about this in the Dec 07 BH&G mag, the pic is fantastic. It looks so lovely. I think if you don't have a real long table you could even use a good size round mirror on a round table, with or without a frame and it would just as lovely. The candle light flickering off the mirror is awesome. Sal

why do you people care if it's hard to clean or costs a lot? The OP didn't ask any of those questions. why not just answer her and forgo the snide remarks? Maybe she does have a maid and can do a 200K kitchen. (They do glass and mirror panels all the time on upper cabinets near a stove, what's the big deal w/having it done on a fridge??) Marva,,, Yes. a Custom cabinetry carpenter could design panels that fit your fridge, which would have to have the ability to accept panels. the panels wouldn't cost 30K to make! However if you wanted a custom cabinet that it is built into, expect to pay a nice amount to have that done. The mirrors would be fit into the panels much like they would on a cabinet door. Obviously to pull off this look, it can't be just a regular generic builder kitchen. The kitchen itself would have to be able to support this look. doesn't have to cost 200K either.

IMO a stud finder does not usually work well with pannelling I would do a french cleat to hang the mirror then studs will not be ahuge issue as long as the cleat finds 2 and for sure that will happen in 40"

If you have a bookcase six feet wide they would be nice on the back of each shelf to reflect the objects on the shelves. Or I like the idea of being used as a table runner. I think it would be great to paint on them by laying them one above the other. Continue the design from the bottom up and hang them that way above a dresser or credenza. Or as a backsplash depending on the size of space you have.

Let us know what you do with them.

I purchased a home once where the previous owner had mounted mirror panels on a wall side by side with about six inches between each mirror. We loved it and just let it that way.

1) remove every other panel, and update the look
2) freecycle ;)
3) I like the idea of using them to line the back of display shelves.
4) I got two from a friend who chose option #1, and use them as a quick-check mirrors - one is outside the master bath, one in the walk-in closet (I refuse to dignify the room by calling it a '3rd bedroom' as it isn't big enough to fit even a twin sized bed, and still shut the door)

I think they might look nice if they were framed and then covered in half marbles or stained glass. Of course, it would be really heavy.

I had my DD cut and put mine in an old window
frame. It's hanging on my laundry room wall.

I would probably take them down and use them in craft projects if they didn't fit behind the bookcase. That would make your room look much larger using them that way,like windows behind the bookcase:) But if you aren't going to use them as mirrors, I'd go with Mayme and cut them down for an old window. I have seen some beautiful things made with old mirrors, where they scrape some glass off and add a picture to show through that part, it looked Victorian/Shabby Chic.
