Anyone have the Electrolux Icon All Fridge / All Freezer?
Comments (25)It seems that folks with the counter depth, french door models seem to be having significant reliability issues (mostly with water and ice dispensers) - have any of you had these with the all fridge, all freezer models? How difficult is it to keep the stainless reasonably clean? I had my heart set on a fridge/freezer with custom panels but it's an area we are tring to save money in the kitchen (the Thermador would have been $9000 plus the custom panels, Subzero was over 12K plus the panels!). Finally - I'm having trouble figuring out the difference between the Electrolux and Electrolux Icon models, other than about $450! The sales people haven't been particularly helpful either, they are just reading off the same sheet I am. Thanks for any input!...See MoreSpace above built in fridge and cabinet above?
Comments (20)Just today our contractor asked us if we wanted a strip put over the fridge or leave it open, so I searched for this thread that I'd previously passed by. My understanding was that our cabinets were standard sizes, and having a taller cabinet wasn't an option - not that it was a measuring error. Guess I'll have to check on that. It seems like having the option to have a taller fridge someday might be an advantage, and so keeping it as is with a strip or hinged strip (I love that idea!) might be best. Let us know what you decide and how it looks!...See MoreIdeas or pictures? That space above the fridge
Comments (22)Dear Gardenwebers: Just home from working and checking out all the wonderful pictures and suggestions you have all made for what to do for open storage above the refrigerator. You've given me much to think about and many beautiful kitchen to drool over. Cohomom -- cool idea with the long shelf across the full length of the wall. Trailrunner -- love the storage area for books. Sochi -- good to know that if we have to ask the cabinet maker to close the space in down the road that we won't be the first to ask for that. Sandn -- I want to devour your kitchen. I hope there is still some of it left to gobble by the time I get around to opening your post. Sidney -- love the basket idea. Beagle and circuspeanut -- thanks for your ideas and pictures too! Houseful -- very cool arch....See MoreBig space above fridge - did KD mess up?
Comments (19)All modern fridges require at least two inches above, behind, and below the fridge. The air is vented in a circle around the fridge from top-to-front-to-bottom-to-back-to-front, etc. with significant gaps above and below the fridge. Builtins usually cover this gap with grates supplied for above and below. The 30" Freestanding Liebherr manual says: "Unit Venting DO NOT restrict the air flow. Air flow must be provided for the unit to operate. The factory air vents provide 31 square inches (200 cm2) of air flow. If you are replacing the factory air vents with an overlay, the air flow must be the same or greater than the factory air vents." And later: "A gap of at least 2 inches (51 mm) depth must be provided behind and along the entire width of this unit to ensure sufficient ventilation. The area of ventilation above the unit should be at least 18 square inches (116 cm2). The greater the area the more economically the appliance will run." Covering the top gap will reduce the efficiency of the refrigerator. Have a look at the Installation part of your manual.... See my post on the Appliances forum....
