Dresser Mirror opinion

I have a dresser that is a little over 6 ft long. We are going to hang a mirror over it and have a question or two. DH wants a oval mirror hung "sideways".....the only oval I can find large enough is a beveled without a frame. It is 37" x 24".

Would it look "naked" without a frame? DH thinks it would be O.K., I have some concerns about it. Since it has been impossible to find a large oval with a frame, I was thinking about a rectangular frame with mirror. Opinions please?????

Why not hang the mirror to one side, and then use the open are to accommodate a great lamp or tall plant/floral arrangement in a great container. Nothing says that the mirror has to hang in the center of the wall above the dresser.

The size of the framed mirror you have found doesn't sound bad, tho. It will fill about 2/3 of the width of the dresser, which proportionately should be fine - and allow for buffet style lamps on each end if you wish.

As for the frame, I think it kind of depends on the furniture piece below it. If the dresser is really massive and detailed, a frameless beveled mirror may look too skimpy. If the dresser is very modern and clean-lined, a frameless mirror may be perfect.

Also, remember that you can purchase a picture frame that you like and have a mirror added.

les017...The oval mirror that I found is not framed. It is beveled, but not framed. I just sorta feel that a unframed mirror above a dresser will look "unfinished". I have hunted for an oval frame large enough to put a mirror in and can't find one without paying $400 or so. Has anyone else hung an unframed mirror above a dresser? Any pictures? Thanks. This is really driving me nuts!

19 of 20 dessers we sell people also get the mirror. IMO it is fine if you do not, many folks tell me they have a flat sceen they are putting on the wall instead. BUT, it is helpful to have a mirror in your bedroom when you are getting ready. I have a body length mirror on my closet door. Also some mirrors just are not that expensive and if you decide five years from now you want the mirror your bedroom set very well may be out of production. I have sold some classy large floor mirrors and some that open into tie or jewelry cabinents. Also floor and even door mirrors have more positioning possibilities than a mounted dresser mirror, a possible positive or a negative based on your tastes or your guest's.

You only asked about the mirror orientation, but you might want to look at lots of photos of rooms to see what appeals to you, and put them in an ideabook or save them on your device. It would help you narrow down your “likes” and give you some direction. Everyone here is going to have an opinion of what could look good, but it may not be what YOU like, and you’re going to get 10 different style directions. Just sayin’.

Thanks Angel 18432. The house is a bungalow so the rooms are small. The dresser’s pushing it for proportions (68” long) but is low and so kind of works. Trying to decide with a 24”x36” mirror how to not overpower the small room; was thinking horizontal might help with that but am interested in opinions. Thanks a ton!

What about a table lamp and will save the cost of an electrician installing sconses. As well, if you plan on changing dresser eventually, the installed lights, may not work size and shape wise. Nothing above mirror.
