Yes, I would make a big deal out of it. I just hate all the stories about the phone calls not being returned, etc. It seems once people are paid they just move on to capturing the next victim. grrr This is why I am so happy we did our kitchen ourselves, even though it has taken way longer than I ever expected.

I do think if the orders were not written with the special items in it, then you can't expect to get the stuff without paying for it. If the stuff was included in the original order the price would have reflected this, right? Yes, the consumer should always check what is being ordered, especially if you are signing off on it. Even when I just bought my dish drawers, the salesman turned the monitor around to me, to review the order.

It doesn't sound like the designer was making out by dropping off some of the details, and yet charging your for them...they weren't there. I would just be adamant that you want things corrected and pay for the stuff they didn't charge your for.

I, too, would make a big deal out of it. How much do you still owe the designer? Talk to a lawyer if you want to take action, sooner rather than later. Unfortunately the paperwork doesn't back up your conversations, but that doesn't mean you can't make the designer as miserable as he's making you. On the other hand, you could cut your losses, pay for the additions and move on without any more angst. That one works if you won't resent the kitchen once it's all done. By the way, that piece of cherry veneer plywood probably cost about $100-$125 in its raw form. So the finished price of $400 is not out of line. Not saying it's what you wanted, but I don't think you were hammered on the price there.

I don't want to make suggestions about how to deal with your designer but I can tell you where to get the pegboard yourself. You can order it from Valendrawers 800-334-4825. I haven't ordered mine yet. I wanted to see which accessories I actually need when I put everything into my drawers.

The sizes are 19.5" wide ($35.82), 31 1/4" wide ($56.02) and 37.5" wide ($67.76). The pegs are $5.68 each. You or your cabinet maker can trim the bases to fit the drawer. I'm sure that there's shipping and handling and maybe tax,but it still doesn't come to $460.

I don't think you are making a big deal. I can understand oversight of designer on one thing, (even one oversight is pushing it) but stuff happens.

I don't need to list all the items that he did not do right but for me it is just inexcusable. The least he can do is correct the issues that he 'missed' previously without charging you extra!!

I would just take a deep breath and make a list and try to calmly explain to the KD what is pending. If you can see anything that could be a genuine misunderstanding on his part then I would as a good faith share the cost for it. But at the end of the day it should be KD's repsonsibility to fulfill the work he promised to do and was already paid to do!

One suggestion, maybe to save you a bit of angst and expense - I've found I need no dividers in my drawers for dishes - plates, bowls, etc. Just leave a small space between them.

Re the other issues, hang tough. I don't see accepting the desk system in the wrong color.

I'm sorry to say this but you don't have a case if you signed off on the order with the wrong color listed for the desk. I, too, learned the hard way that it's nearly impossible to catch every detail of a kitchen cabinet order. And since you didn't pay for the peg insert, there's no reason the KD should supply it for free just because he/she forgot to order it. But as Rosie says, you don't really need it. I have cushy cupboards in my drawers and no spacers and nothing moves around. In fact, I think those pegs take up too much space and decrease your drawer height so you may be better off without them.

I just had cabinets made for our mudroom and we did a walnut counter for the hutch, benches and desk. The cabinet maker used walnut veneered plywood for the hutch and benches and solid walnut for the desk. He told me the plywood costs $124 a sheet so, as Berone says, it isn't surprising that you were charged $400 for it. If you want solid cherry, they should replace it for you but expect to pay an upcharge.

What exactly does a Kitchen Designer do? What are you paying a KD to do?

I didn't have one with that title. I used the layout people at Menard's. She checked off each cabinet with the layout right in front of us as she made the order. I was my own GC/KD.

I am not sure how much you should pay for vs. the KD.
We talked for such a long time with our kitchen guy, changed styles, colors, nice to haves etc quite a few times. He kept notes as did I. When the final quote came in, some of the "nice to haves" weren't listed. He didn't forget them, we just never made them a "must have" and he was keeping our budget in mind. So when we asked for a new quote with those things and it sent the cost over our previously agreed upon budget, it was then our decision to keep them in. We told him originally that budget was our #1 consideration, so he did what we told him.
We also got a quote from another designer who put every bell and whistle in without asking what we wanted and it came in at twice our budget and she didn't think twice about presenting it to us that way! Each designer has their way.
I don't think yours intentionally misrepresented the order. You even said those things were "mentioned" in the past, but I think it was up to you to make sure you got what you wanted. I would bet that peg drawer would have been the same cost he is quoting you now if you had gotten it in your original order. The color is a whole different story. Where did he get the color from that you got? I don't understand that one and it seems he should correct that for you.

Rev-a-shelf also makes peg boards that need to be trimmed. All of the sizes,including the pegs, were under $100.
