You can always tape up sections of 4' wide kraft paper and create a template to make sure of the correct size for an area rug. 9x12 is a standard size for a rug. Once you select something larger & jump up to the next standard size of 10x14, the price of rugs gets very $$$. It's not that you can't find the sizes you mention, but there will be very few rugs to choose from.

IMO those 2 small frame chairs don't work well with your other furniture selections. The scale is not quite right with your loveseat/sofas. In the short term, maybe consider turning them on an angle and adding an occasional table between the two to make the setup more conducive for conversation.

Sorry. Totally missed the table in your picture when I first viewed it. Maybe a wood drum style table, similar in style to the one below, would be better selection to weight that area. Just a thought.

Thanks Beverly. interesting suggestion. I bought a drum table last weekend and painted it a deep teal green but haven't brought it in yet. I will be putting it in place tonight or tomorrow. I thought it would add weight to the leggy chairs to better balance them with the other pieces but thought there were too many wood finishes so painted it.

I saw a wool rug on kijiji that is 10x13. I had originally planned to by a piece of carpet 10x12 and have the edges finished but this is easier. It is cream with a narrow border in blue/green and a smaller and narrower border closerto the centre.

Hard to pass up a buy on kijiji. The beige with the blue green border insets is a pretty safe choice.

The room could handle some color if you decided to go that way. A rug without a medallion in the center so you don't have to worry about where the coffee table gets positioned. Of course you'd have to find the right color blue/green that works with your drapes

It's hard to tell from the picture but it seems to me that the sofa could be floated away from the wall a little bit more.

If you found something you love in that size, I would go for it.

Only you can tell if these colors will work with the items you already own. Can't tell from the pics if this rug is wool or nylon. Rugs are hard for anyone to sell, so don't spend too much on this if the colors work for you.

I think you need to decide if you will be concerned if your coffee table doesn't line up with the square Greek Key pattern in the center of the rug. A table half on half off would drive me crazy, but we're all different.

Honestly, you could use a rug with a bit more color and pattern. The wall color and the color of the sofa are already very monochromatic. I would be hesitant to another piece that is mostly solid and the same color. I like the second one Beverly posted a lot.

I have a suggestion for a new layout for your room. I'm not a fan of lining up sofas against walls if it can be avoided, and it appears you have a nice big room for furniture.

I'm thinking the armoire looks cramped, from what I can see in this picture, between the two windows. Have you considered a layout like the one below?

Thanks PPS7. I am going to go and see the rug. I was going for a light airy feel with a lot of neutrals and then hits of color but I also love the rugs that Beverly posted. I am using the blue/greens as accent colors with a greyed down mauve in the kitchen. If the rug isn't nice, I will keep looking - even if it is, I may keep looking. :) I think a rug would really tie the room together.

Beverly, I like your suggestion. There is a TV in the armoire and I had the builder put a power and cable outlet on that wall in case I decided to move it that way. I just measured and there is about 50 inches between the windows and the loveseat is 70" so it would work if I floated it away from the wall. The other concern is that there is a half wall behind where the loveseat is now and the sofa would extend past it quite a bit as it is only 9'. I am adding a pic of that corner. Try to imagine it without the boxes. It is a large mirror for the DR but I need to stencil before hanging it.

I wonder if it would work if I floated the sofa in front of the windows, and left the loveseat where it is. That would also put the taller armoire on the 10" wall. I have another armoire that is a bit larger that is currently in the BR but I have been thinking about moving it. I linked it here. Does it look too imposing for the room?
