Area Rug Size

I apologize for the flurry of posts. I am just settling into my new home and trying to get the first phase of decorating done.

I think I have most of the furniture and placement nailed down for the great room and am thinking about putting an area rug down to define the space. Although open to the kitchen/eating area, the space is defined by the 10' ceilings. It is just under 18' x 13'6". I was thinking to use an area rug that is about 10' x 12' or 13' for the space but am not sure if that is the right size. I don't want to haul rugs home and back if I can avoid it.

The size I am considering would leave a 1' perimeter on the side behind the sofa and loveseat and would allow the two chairs with caning to be fully on the rug. It would end just before the armoire. Or I could shift it a bit towards the window wall and have the front of the loveseat and armoire on the rug.

I am adding a pic (I know you are probably tired of my pics :) to help visualize the space.

What do you think of the size I am considering?

P.S. The compressor will be removed soon. :)
