3rd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Challenge - 2008

This is a challenge I started on the HGTV Holiday Craft Board in 2008. I am inviting all to join in... You can join by posting your picture on the HGTV board or if you are not a member of the board & don't want to join... Don't fret ~ just email me your pictures... I can post for you on the HGTV Holiday Craft message board.

Here's the basic idea...

3rd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Challenge - 2008
Can you believe it? It's Our 3rd Annual BREAST CANCER AWARENESS CRAFT CHALLENGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am inviting all CRAFTERS (beginners, hobbyist & professional) to join this challenge.

I am so inspired by the survival stories I struggles I have heard surrounding the Breast Cancer. I thought a "Craft Challenge" is a great way to continue the awareness (BTW - this challenge can also be adopted for other awareness issues as well)

Here's the challenge:

Create, Repurpose, Recycle or Reuse an items to create a craft that celebrate those affected by Breast Cancer. Keep in mind the national awareness color for breast cancer is pink. You can incorporate other colors but keep the theme. All mediums are accepted: Papercrafts, T2T, Mosaics, Computer, Sewing, Painting etc... whatever your precious heart desires...

The challenge begins today Thursday, October 2, 2008! It ends Thursday, October 9, 2008. That is the deadline to post your pictures. You only have to post a picture of your creation. We will all vote on the final entries from Friday, October 10th to Friday, October 17th. The winner will be announced on Saturday, October 18th. The winner will receive a special gift from me - a gift box full specialty BC Awareness products.

Participants of this challenge are encouraged to gift their finish project to a survivor or donate it to a local organization or fund raising event.

Eric: Man man man, what am I going to do with u. All this negativity when I'm trying to show you guys a doctor who well teach you how to help yourself as well as your beloved family.. If you think cancer declined you obviously don't work in a cancer clinics, or even better in Dr. morse office... If you see all the disease out their, you wouldn't say this BS... You love to read a "legit" article published by "legit" people and believe it. Due to treatment based thinking, ur kidding right... You understand that the patient in "remission" could die a few years later from the affects from the "treatment" your talking about and they label that is "cured". If you think his claims are ridicicolous, go to his clinic in Florida, work with him for a month, you'll see what I see. Maybe it's unbelievable because you love the allopathic "early detection" "treatment" " "let's kills cancer". cancer is not a living organism, people are dying everyday, trying to kill cancer" look around you, does this world look healthy? Go sit in the waiting room at a M.D office, see what kind of success they have! I completely understand you are Skeptical, but you don't take the time to thoroughly research this great doctor, who saves hundreds of thousands of lives.. The FDA doesnt want you to know.... Good Friday morning! Raeanne, bon voyage. I am so glad you got that package in time LOL! Have fun. John, see the effect you have on women! Sounds like you were the perfect gentleman. Good luck sleuthing, I mean babysitting! Hopefully they pay more for babysitting than .50 an hour that I was paid years ago. LOL Maddie, I am still trying to figure out how I can pull NYC off in December. I am in on the exchange too. Besh, have you given any thought to NYC? Good job on Dee's package BJ! Have fun at your planning party tonight. Planning is the key. Dee, enjoy all those lovely gifts! What a fun package to receive. Speaking of planning I have my carriage club's planning meeting tomorrow night. This is where we plan all the events for 2008. It's a pot luck (ugh) but I plan on being prepared for good eating with what I bring. I have to get a photo of this but will share so you can imagine what I am seeing: About 2 miles from my house is a lovely farm with big fields on both sides of the road and a lovely antique colonial home. The fields host flocks of sheep all summer and fall. On my way home Halloween evening someone had delivered to both fields huge piles of pumpkins for the sheep to eat. So I am driving along taking this all in. The sheep, some with black faces, eating from these huge piles of pumpkin, the setting sun filtering through the trees giving off this warm cast of oranges and golds through the leaves and a old man (presumably grandfather) standing next to this tow headed boy who is petting one of the sheep through the fence. It was all too beautiful. I will try to get a photo of the sheep and pumpkins but I doubt I the camera will ever be able to capture what is in my mind's eye. I hope you can imagine it.

I've only read the article posted. Was she making the kind of claim that leads to a suit? Not just sharing her pain about the cancer? That whole celebrity thing of my problems will help people? I thought she did go to her regular physician, too. That the emergency room was about the pain so bad it needed urgent attention that happened four times because her regular doctors didn't find anything wrong, but maybe I misread it? Whichever, there's a big difference between a proper discharge of "take this for the pain and see your physician Monday morning", or "we're going to have to send you to a specialist", and "you're fine, you're just fat", no matter who said it to her. In the US, at least, emergency rooms are also for a lot more than strokes, heart attacks and traumas. It's for broken bones, major cuts and burns, etc. Too many people also go there because they have no other access to health care, but that's changing with the new insurance structure. I had a small wound on my thumb that wouldn't stop bleeding on a weekend, and which was beyond my knowledge of first aid. I heard them in the emergency room (small hospital, not a trauma center) arguing over who would have to treat it because it was boring. The guy who did had to be reminded that it had to be cleaned first. He had some sticky stuff I'd never heard of that gives the clot something to form on. He could have just handed it to me and let me do it myself and the result would have been better. I've been to the major hospital emergency room recently with elderly relatives, and they have a much better culture, and were fairly compassionate and quite able. There's more to medicine than racking up interesting cases however.

Hugs to all of you who are experiencing illness themselves or coping with illness in their family. I hope you have all the support you need. I logged on at 9:00AM yesterday and was blown away by over a dozen well wishes which had been posted on Monday mornng in addition to the resonses from the weekend. I shared this thread with my oldest daughter who I think rolls her eyes when I mention someone or something from the forums. I think you understand the the term "stranger friends". My youngest had the mastectomy. The oldest is so impressed by the depth of concern and generosity of this group, and so am I every day. If you need something, ask the group. It is so wow! Heritagehd07, I hope you are doing well. so sorry about you and your mother. moosemac, at first part of me felt exactly the same as you about my baby's beautiful body, but I understood her decision. My daughter chose to have a double mastectomy because she felt she would not be able to handle the anxiety of frequent mammograms and testing, She is the same beautiful loving daughter, sister, mother, wife. Besides she didn't have boobz when I got her. I am so sorry that the last several years have been so rough for your daughter. I am no expert by any means, but message me about whatever. Bunny, thank you. You and your daughter have such resilient spirits. It has been reassuring to learn about your daughter's recovery. May it continue to go well. Raee, the bandages will stay on at least until my daughter sees the plastic surgeon on Monday to have 2 of the drains removed. I will get her the cream in case bandages are removed and changed to remove the drains. Annie, I will show my daughter the knited knockers. see what she thinks. I am not sure she needs them since whe has temporaries.
