It's too bad, because with the exception of the sheets being set too far apart, everything else looks quite nice. Clean lines, good corners, I only see one or two divots in the entire installation and they may just be from your camera phone. The sheets being that apparent is just nasty. As a GC, this is between you and your GC. You deal with the GC, the GC deals with the tile guy. Removing the glass tile after the thinset has fully cured will likely peel the fleece off the Kerdi, but as Bill wrote, that's not your concern. That simply part of the remediation. Regardless of your conversation, document this in writing and do it ASAP. Write your GC a letter and send it certified mail, return receipt requested. Just the facts. Step by step. What happened. What was said, when it was said. Try to keep the emotion out of it. Close with what you want. Mail the letter. Have your conversations and see where this leads. Things in your favor are that you objected to the tile spacing prior to it being grouted, and you voiced those objections to the installer. Also in your favor is that a "standard installation" for glass mosaic is that the sheets are spaced so the installation looks seamless and "sheetless". Again, that letter is independent of your conversation. And start documenting your timeline so you don't lose track of details over time. Your choices will be to go for a complete redo, and everyone will be fighting you on that, because it could require new Kerdi, new tile, etc. Or to settle with some sort of financial compromise. Although I'm not recommending this route, as to me it's more an unknown than a known, I'll ask Bill or Bud (or anyone else) out of curiosity, as they are much more knowledgeable about thinset then I am... Is there any way new sheets could be set over the existing? Prep the existing glass with a belt sander? Grind it with diamond pads? Etch the glass with a chemical rinse? Then skim coat or just set new glass over the existing? Tiling over ceramic is fairly straightforward, but tiling over glass mosaic is something I've never heard or seen done, I'm not up enough on thinset technology to advise that route. Mongo

Home center stores often carry brand names - usually a limited choice, but still great if you can find what you want. The one thing I will not buy at a home center store is a kitchen or bath faucet that will get a lot of use. The faucets even of the name brands like Delta are more plastic and often have a faux finish - looks like chrome or bronze but is just a plastic look alike. I have used home center tile and my tile installer, when I am not doing it myself, said he has no problem with home center tile. In general, he is very picky. I would watch out for the spacing of small tiles on mesh. I have not had any problems, but I have seen people, just today, have problems with penny tile and small hex tiles unevenly placed on a mesh and the tile setter did not bother to cut the mesh apart and make sure the tiles were evenly spaced. Those may have even been expensive tiles. The OP didn't say, but that is something to watch for no matter where you get your tile if using a mosaic or small tile.

Dottie - I could not have done this without an educated designer - it's not just about the design choices although I would never have come up with design choices as my brain isn't hardwired in those kinds of visually imaginative ways. I can appreciate things but I don't know how to pull them together and I wouldn't have the ability to figure out where to even start in terms of the sea of vendors. I am good about researching appliances and functions but get lost in the sea of visual possibilities :-) And I can't even imagine dealing with codes and such since Los Angeles is code crazy - I wanted to move some floor electrical outlets up a bit from the floor as I found it difficult to reach them when I had some hip issues so I was thinking about for the future - I was told that if I move a plug, the whole thing has to be rewired back to the panel box. And the darn kitchen sink has to be approved by the UL LOL - who would think a kitchen sink could be dangerous.

@snicks0513 This is the first time we've viewed your post. Nice outcome. We've worked with Susan Jablon over the years with great experience. Also, kudos for stepping out of the box on the tile selection/design (it's refreshing to see character and color which works with your other materials). Good for you for advocating for a quality install. As industry supporters of educating the consumer about quality tile installations I wonder if you would be so kind as to expand just a bit more on your experience for the benefit of others in the community? Specifically, how did you go about finding/hiring the tile contractor that performed the final work? Secondly, are you aware of what he/she did differently to achieve a quality installation? And finally (I know $ is a sensitive topic at times but so important for establishing realistic expectations), what did you pay for the installation (not tile itself) that was done professionally ? This would be the bonus follow-up that wraps this learning experience for all. Thank you and congrats on the new space.
