What are you making for Christmas gifts?

Does anyone know yet? I have to start soon or they won't get made, lol. Id love some inspiration. Details would be good to as well!

I owe my Mother an apron. I'm still trying to decide on a nice fabric.

Gazebo for the back yard, and patio built up front. Money is always good. Gift certificates to local and online nurseries. Extra helping hands are always welcome. Seeds - lots and lots of seeds: nasturtium, zinnia, cosmos - easy to grow and reseeding. And plants that are really resilliant to rabbits, voles and chipmunks. And rain - enough to refill our local lakes, so the drought ban would be a thing of the past! Amen.

I forgot all about the little sewing Jars I made for gifts and to sell. I'm using pieces of an old quilt in a canning Jar lid to use as a pincushion, and inside the Jar I made matchbook type needle keeps. I used printed cardstock(whatever is on sale for .12 at the time! lol)to line the lid, make the matchbook and to glue 2 pieces together and cut slits in to hold thread. I put in buttons, safety pins, and some iron on hem tape. You could use any fabric and some batting. And I think these would be good gifts for the college boys and girls on your list. So I mae some in plaids and paislies..masculine prints...too,lol! My senior group recently made a trip to Branson. One of the attractions that we visited was the butterfly palace where they released thousands of white butterflies in our presence My DD and I made a stained glass piece of a white butterfly on a Poinsettia as a prize for one of the seniors. The winner really loved it.

It wasn't a gift, but when DH and I were at my Step-father's on Boxing day to help him eat the desserts, he mentioned that a neighbour's wife had died of cancer this summer. This was a total shock to me. My parents live on a court, and I "know" of the man he was talking about because I remember when he got his little long-haired doxie as a puppy. We got such a kick out of him training this teeny-weeny dog.....he was scared of the grass, wouldn't walk on it. The couple is about my age. When we were leaving I told hubby to drop me off at the guy's house. He had his Christmas lights on, and I knocked. I told him who I was, and that how sorry I am, etc etc. We both had tears in our eyes and we rubbed each other's arm; (didn't hug.) He was so touched that I would stop and see him. His wife died 3 weeks after Mom. I'm so glad I did that, and I still tear up thinking about him (as I am now)

I'm thinking of giving totems or painted chairs to friends. I always worry if they will see the beauty in them like I do! Do any of you worry about giving what you make as gifts?

I always worry about it also. I guess the point is to try to think about the person and their likes and lifestyle. But its hard.

i think it is very nice to get homemade gifts ..I for one love getting them, shows love for the person that you would take the time to make something special

hi Kathy! I'm making brooches/pins out of old and vintage neckties. Also headbands. These are very pretty and I think any age will love and wear them. And very easy and quick to make, and inexpensive. They'd make good items to sell at craft shows,too.
I'm going to be making tutorials for these soon!

All you need is neckties and needle and thread and pin backings or hair clips or bobby pins for the flowers.
For the headbands you'll need neckties and elastic and needle and thread.
These all take about half a necktie..I'm making a skirt out of the wider ends, and that leaves half a nice piece of silk!
Check back in the next few days to see if the tutorial is finished yet. In the meantime, I have photos of what I've made so far :D
