Pls show me your granite behind a cooktop/range
Comments (17)I've been overtaken by work for a week and didn't see your question. The full backsplash granite I believe is 2cm as is the custom in Calif. And the height of the backsplsh on either side is actually more like 7". The fabricator agreed to get it a little higher to hide the damaged drywall from tearing out old tile. Because we were doing a budget reno, we did not have a GC. We had to coordinate between granite installer and hood installer. Make sure you have the support behind the wall before the granite goes in and know exactly where the holes are to be drilled in the granite for the hood install. GWers helped us out here big time. Hopefully you won't have this issue, but to us it seemed it was a stressed time to do it right. I hope you decide with the full backsplash, the granite is just so beautiful and functional....See MoreMay I see your decorated kitchen corner? Picture
Comments (64)Hey Steph, Ya as far as laminates go I think it is pretty nice - I have actually seen them use it on Design Inc. Here are more pics but it doesn't show the counters too well and it looks extra shiney from the window but it is actually more on the matte side. It is not a straight edge and the seaming looks great. I actually bought it and had it installed by my brother in law's kitchen design company. I have heard mixed reviews on HD installers but that would be different in each area. Personally I change things up all the time and buying laminate gave me the option on new counters on a more regular basis and with 4 young kids we don't worry about them too much. Granite for me at this point was a big financial committment and also a design committment I was not ready to make just yet....See MoreMay I see your kitchen table in U shaped kitchen?
Comments (14)Thanks, I was thinking oval or round. Behind the table is 1/2 a wall which goes to ceiling, the rest is entrance to DR. Next to refrigerator is entrance to laundry/mud room, next to that is entrance to den. One more question: do you think I can use the oak chairs? They are comfortable, I would change the seats. I'm thinking of having a round table made up with an oak base with a formica top (Besalt Slate?) or something similar. Thanks in advance for your help!...See MoreMay I see pics of your kitchen window blinds?
Comments (8)ebean -- my DH was ADAMANT about not having any window treatments because he didn't want the view blocked. I had a shear valance on a tension rod up there for all of 2 days before I took it down because he was having such a fit. OK, he really wasn't having a fit but made it really clear that he wanted an unobstructed view out the window. My mom had a honeycomb blind at her old house and it was so gross! And it was rather far from the stove. We had our blinds professionally cleaned a couple of months ago and the kitchen one was pretty sticky even though it isn't right above my stove. The blinds guys said no matter where they are in the kitchen they tend to get mucky, so I would definitely not get something with a lot of fabric. Just my $.02 :)...See More- 15 years ago
