Have you looked for the benches made out of headboards and footboards? On the Garden Junk forum at GW (sister site to this one) they have lots of examples and suggestions. Headboards and footboards are usually easy to find if you go to yard sales or estate sales and even check family memeber's basements.

Here are the basic steps....

You can make benches out of almost anything. Like if you can find an old door, you could lay it on something and you've got a bench! I took cinder blocks and 4X4's from the junk pile and made a bench for in the garden. It was simple and FREE!

Good luck!

hi, although I can,t post pics yet,I have made about 15 nice benches from recycled wood and started out a complete dummy , there is a huge amount of free plans on the www. do a search for free plans get specific, bench plans I can say that think four posts and 15degree slant for the back and a seat and its a bench . also there are lots of pics of benches to study .start looking and use deck screws and good paint or sealer have fun Rick

Better Bench? Teak Bench? No Bench?

This is a great topic. I've been thinking lately about my master bathroom remodel of the future and wondering what I'll do in my shower. I would love to be able to either sit or prop my leg up for shaving. But I also wonder if my shower is too small for any kind of bench. Thanks, Olychick, for the picture and dimensions of your shower and bench. It's incredibly helpful. If you don't mind my asking, can you feasibly fit two into the shower with the bench or does the bench interfere? I'm hoping to steal about 6" of length in my shower which currently can fit two with some minimal elbowing while one person shampoos. I'm concerned that adding a bench will make it impossible. Thanks, writersblock, for posting that Houzz picture. That fold down bench looks much nicer than I'd feared a teak bench might look in a pale colored shower.

Personally I really like the nightstands. I think they go fine in the room and with your headboards and bedding. It is a more muted comfortable feeling. The navy of the benches seem too much for the rest of the color scheme. All of the elements together aren't cohesive. Also I really dislike the black table in the middle of the beds If you are intent on keeping the benches then I would change the side tables since you say that the bedding stays. You could either paint the side tables to match the headboard or you could go navy to match the fabric (navy would be my choice). I also agree with painting the legs of the benches to go with your head/foot boards.

I like the idea of a simple, shallow bench between your two doors. But, it has to be comfortable to sit in, otherwise, what's the point? How deep is your balcony and what is the measurement between your two doors? Ikea Design within reach. On sale now. Comes in other colors. 20" deep. All Modern - wood, 19.5" deep If you can drill to hang, perhaps a really narrow egg chair. Anywhere to secure a hammock?

Took a mini break from Houzz and actually finished some projects. This is the end result of the front nook area and it is perfect for us. I still want to explore a floating bench but we had significant trouble finding a woodworker to make the bench so settled for this upgrade instead. The photos make me smile Every day and I love them.
