Dh rescued this table from the neighbor as he was hauling it off to the dump, he realized that his wife might want to mosaic that!

so I did! checkers anyone?

Thanks, everyone, for all your compliments. So nice to hear such things from all my forum friends. I didn't think about it as I was designing the table, but I guess having skunk plates does make me sort of special. What I can't figure out is, why didn't any of you ask where you could get your own skunk plates??? Come to think of it, the fact that I actually collected a bunch of skunks does put my sanity into question. This tidbit of information that you've all learned about me is something not one other living person knew (even my husband and grown children). Now that you know, I'm asking that you keep it under wraps. :-P A nod to the color scheme: As the designers on HGTV are found of saying, I used the plates as my "inspiration piece" and went from there. Remember the pink and black bathrooms of the 50s? We had one and it was full-blown (along with an avocado and gold kitchen). Must go now, I've thought of another game table idea. Again, thanks for the cheering section.

We have a flip-top game table in our living room that we use regularly to play backgammon, chess, checkers and cards on. It's more of a dedicated game table than the one you're looking at as the entire piece is inlaid with different exotic woods. I do know that it was handmade in Syria but have no idea how old it is. It came with hand-carved game pieces for the various games. We have it set up in the corner of our living room. Here are some pics of it. Lynn Close-up of the table top the way it stays until we use it. But, I can see in this pic that the table is rotated 90-degrees. I don't keep the sides with the hinges in front of the chairs. This top rotates and then flips or you have the option of taking it off, sliding the top into a slot in the table for storage and using the backgammon underneath: Here is the game table corner of our living room: And a couple close-ups of various ways it opens for games. Thanks. The Stickley does have an old school library feel, so it really does work nicely in there (I'm on the west coast so Arts & Crafts is as old as public institutions get!). I currently have an old round metal patio set indoors while the backyard is under renovation and I'll have to say, not any table will look right! The umbrella hole is weird. :)

Thanks Izzy Mn and Linda -- I think it is going to be a really functional piece -- it's upstairs in my sunroom (where I have our "excess" TV) and where I sew and wrap presents and such. As a full square it will be a great sewing table and at Christmas will be much easier to wrap on it than on the hassock I currently wrap on. Plus the rest of the year it can hold a lamp and "stuff" next to the TV chair! In looking at it more, I do think it's probably 20s rather than 40s or 50s. But I love that Colonial Revival furniture of the between the war era through the 40s and have many pieces in my home. They seem to fit in well in my 20s foursquare craftsman. Again, thank you all --

Thank you all, we had the neighbor over today for the inaugeral 1st checker game. He was amazed that it looked so good. I wish I had room for it but alas I think it will have to be sold... maybe I can buy more glass with the profit! LOL

Garden Potter, the mosaic was made with stained glass. No I don't sell anywhere but can send things to auction locally or hit an art show occasionally. I've personally never sold anything but a table I donated sold for 5000 once... Another donation will be up for sale in Nov, I'm waiting to see what it goes for - was a bowling ball.

I would love to get where I could do this for profit but finding the outlet for marketing is the tough part

Both items are gorgeous! I'd think any local antiques/collectibles or even a gardening center would love to sell your pieces. Good luck with finding an outlet for them, you are certainly talented and do beautiful work. Luvs
