Anyone have a game table in family room?

I have a large bay window in a large (empty!) family room and I'm thinking of putting a 42" or 48" round table in the space for a game table, or just a nice place to gather. The family room is not open to the kitchen so I don't want it to look like we stuck a kitchen table in the family room. Any ideas? Does anyone have a picture of a similar setup?

I was out looking for beds on the weekend and saw at Lazy Boy, a poker and game table that had a removable top so it could be used for eating or other activities as well.

I know someone who recently bought a secondhand round table, 36" I believe, and covered it with a tablecloth from Ballard Designs and also bought a couple of the nicer wood folding chairs from Ballard. It's in a corner of her living room and certainly doesn't look like a kitchen table.

To me, something about the chairs not matching the table makes it look less like a "kitchen set," if that makes sense. Maybe a round wood table partnered with a couple of Parsons chairs, or wicker? Depending on your style.

I like them, too, and don't think they're outdated. It all depends on your personal decorating style. Maybe if you're into MCM or the PB look, they would look odd, but not in a traditional or casual/cottage style home. I recently caught an Oprah show where she was being interviewed in her home (or one of them - ha) and next to the sofa she was sitting on was a beautiful skirted table with a topper. I love that look, especially when it coordinates with all the other fabrics in the room. The sofa was a melon tending toward pink color and the table fabrics coordinated perfectly with it. And of course she looked marvelous with that color as a backdrop. I have two of the large round tables with glass toppers. I think they're 30" across. I use one on my front porch and one is in the entry. I change the topper out seasonally, as I do the quilt hanging on one of the walls. I'd post a pic but I have a chandelier sitting on it right now, waiting to be hung, so it doesn't look so good. lol Bonnie, love your table! What a pretty home you have. : )

Big fish games.com You can play a trial for one hour and buy it if you like. They have some games for $6.99 or they have one game a day for $2.99. My sister just plays the trial and says oh darn when the hour is up. They have a new game everyday. It's safe, no pop up ads. I like the hidden objects and the word games. I've bought several and you own them forever.

I don't have a suggestion but want to mention that the $25 I spent on an air hockey table on craigslist is some of the best money I ever spent. If you are willing to entertain less than perfect options you may be able to get a great deal.

Anyone have a family closet?

Not a Pro. I have never heard of a family closet. I am intrigued. I will say when I moved into my home, I moved the laundry room to the basement and made it beautiful. It was the best decision I made for myself. I love the exercise and I loved that the only clothes I had to lug up two flights of steps was my own and my husbands. The children were in charge of bringing there own up, if they chose to. I am a person who hangs clothes up to let dry,. Very little went into the dryer, secondly we had a lot of team uniforms to wash. I used baskets for their socks, underwear etc. They were color coded. Each child got a color. So shelves with baskets and their own laundry basket. Their bedrooms were always clean lol They would never take their clothes up to their room and they had to take their dirty clothes down to be washed. When they needed clothes, dirty clothes went down and clean clothes went up. Easy peasy for me.

My living room is a Tiki Lounge. I have a 1950's rattan/wicker bar with stools, bamboo stands with stemware, a fridge, and the main item is a large round glass-topped rattan table with matching chairs. I have friends over frequently to play cards and we have a great time. There are always people sitting at it during parties, so it comes in really handy. People tend father in groups of 2 to 4 for conversations and this is just the right size to promote some great socialization.

ksn90...I would go for the bigger table if your room can take it. When we play cards at mine, I put a large glass lazy susan in the middle of the table to rotate the cards around...it works like a charm. Try the table...I think it will prove to be fun!!!

Oooops...that is supposed to say....People tend TO GATHER in groups of 2 to 4 for conversations and this is just the right size to promote some great socialization. (My laptop has keyboard issues...ay yi yi....LOL)

Also, if you want it to be a game table you need to provide some games. Cards, dominoes, board games...etc. Use some folding trays to provide places for people to have snacks, drinks, cell phones, etc. I have advanced to having the lazy susan, a card shoe, battery powered card shuffler, card holders, and score pads.
