Tray grouted...

I finally grouted the silver tray this evening. Now maybe I can get back to working on the table.I used charcoal grout.

That has turned out gorgeous!!!! great job...I still love the greens with the silver of the tray!! You did a great job with the china..well actually with all of it!!!!!

This is truly beautiful, you should be very proud. I was just gifted an old rectangular tray of this style and someday want to do something on it. Was there a specific adhesive you used for the glass on metal? I really admire your color choices in this piece. Do you know yet how you will display it? Suz

So, in order to accommodate the curb I will have to trim 4-1/2 inches off of one side of the Kerdi tray. Actually, you'll want to take 2 1/4" off of TWO sides. Atleast that would be the optimum, but it's dependent on where the drain is located. That's the one thing I don't like about the Kerdi system, and why I've never used the tray. I prefer to mud the shower pan, just so that this isn't an issue. I realize that if I do cut 4-1/2" from one side it will make the perimeter lower on that side. Is it something that I can overcome? Yes. I assume it just means I'll have a little wider grout seam on that side. Am I correct? no. Just start with a cut tile on the bottom, and then you can cut in the dip in the pan, and no one sees nuttin! Or can I build the perimeter back up on that side with thinset or deck mud? Or you could do that, too!!

Cindyiloo!! How cool they are all!! You did great and your Mom will really treasure your thoughtfulness plus your talent!! Plus, I didn't know they had a glossy tile lab sealer, my bottle looks similar but doesn't say glossy. I guess I will have to buy a new bottle along with more thinset, a huge bag of concrete and sand. By the way Lowes has the quickquete 80lb bag fo less than $4 and a professional(whatever thaaaaat means) 80 lb bag for less than $5. I love those trays, going to see if i can find some at my GW.

thanks crackpot and thyme! I stopped halfway through to paint the sides with some white enamel, oh the fumes! but the original leek green paint just didnt go with it. Im still undecided what colour grout to use, Im tossing up between white and the medium grey suggested by crackpotannie, leaning more to the grey I think. here is the latest update with all the tiles on! woohoo! Ive learned a few things doing this, the blue and white tiles had a texture which didnt show up on the small pieces so the background is more plain than I wanted but it's all learning!

Glad to know others are up at the crack of dawn. No wonder you get so much done, Slow. The tray is a $2 thing from an antigue mall. The sunflowers come from a vase I picked up at a yardsale for .50. When my oldest son's girlfriend was here she admired the vase and seemed appalled when I told her my plan was to bust it up. I am thinking of giving her the tray for Christmas. Still have some flowers left that I want to use on a box. I wanted to experiment with the glitter in the grout. The glitter looks like pieces of sea salt. It's supposed to be antique white grout-looks very blah on these pieces to me. Don't think it added much. The pumpkins were another experiment with thinset and styrofoam. By the last tree I just quit thinsetting altogether-styrofoam only. Hope to get the white glitter grout and do the trees today. That star got raves and I sold it for a ridiculous amount of money (to me anyway)for what I put in it. I have another I want to do in red/white/blue. The pitcher I did in red with gray grout also sold for more than I ever thought it should. I didn't argue about price, just smiled and took the money. I am quite proud of the flamingo. Still not sure if it's a christmas gift or not...maybe I'll just keep it!

Suz, I used weldbond on most of it but I'm not sure that was the correct choice! I plan to put it in my booth although I'm not sure it will sell as I have much better luck with the shabby chic look. If I were to keep it I would probably glue it to a silverplate candle holder or compote like this.

LIL: You have such a good eye for color and arrangement. Fabulous job, and I LOVE the way you suggest using it, should you keep it. Gray grout - my latest favorite for everything.

That charcoal is nice, I wanted it to just blend in with the silver color of the tray since the glass wasn't going all the way to the edge.

I don't know Annie, I have trouble pricing things. It's a small town also and hard to get a decent price.

It's beautiful. I needed the inspiration, I have been buying silver trays and cake stands for a while,but haven't mosaiced too many of them. Love the gray grout with the silver tray and green.
