My new junk! What to do?

I picked up a bunch of little things yesterday. There's a metal garbage can I thought I could decopauge? Wooden sliverware that maybe I could make a wind chime out of? Wooden cutting boards I could make signs out of? Any better or other ideas??

Sorry for the large pictures. I don't know how to make them smaller.

I like your ideas.
You could mosaic parts of the little shelf or the whole cutting boards.

Thanks, Kathy. I've been brainstorming on what to do with that spice rack. I like the mosaic idea! I saw some people use it as a nail polish holder or craft paint holder. I don't have craft paints (yet!), but I do have nail polish. Not near enough to fill that up, though. And the other people's had fronts on each shelf so they wouldn't fall out easily, so I don't know how good it will work the way it is. Can't think of anything else to do with it! Help! Anyone?

I turned it sideways and looked at it for 20 minutes trying to get a different idea. :) How does everyone come up with their ideas?! Just plain old creativeness, I suppose.....

On our Christmas posts someone had great jeweled cone trees. 1 pastel other 1 Victorian looking. Can't remember what it was under but they were all pinned on so could be reused. With damaged jewelry you could take a "jewel" off of 1 item & put on another to fill in hole & then spray the whole thing, no one would know! Yes, I agree that all the jewelry needs sorting,clear plastic shoe boxes or even regular shoeobxes marked on end or ziploc bags & put it all in large box, mark top of bag with items inside- so they are "filed" in the box. Whole earrings with stones or rhinestones all in a box that way you see if you have enough of something to work out your design. It's been about a year so hope you have made something up. If not organize it so it isn't so out of control. I've gotten small stashes & even that is a mess if not sorted out. Hope yoou post pics soon. Jan

Looks like a great "chandy" for a covered porch or a protected area ... susiewantsroses did one with birds ...marlene, too, maybe froufrou, too... I think...so you could spray paint some birds for on top of the candleholder parts ... & maybe some nesting materials inside the chandy. It could be an orb in your gardens .... turn it upside down & sit it on a pillar (of sorts)...whatever you can come up with in your stash!...then you could hang stars or danglies or whatever from the upside-down candleholders. Or as others have done, you could "stuff" it & plant Hens & Chicks or sedums. Have fun! You got it for a steal! Jeanne S.

So then I'm left w/ a few things that I'm not sure what to do with. Probably they're extra enough that I shouldn't own them--but they're spares, and so I'm not sure what to do with them. There are the "Band-It trash-can bag holders (basically, a ponytail holder that's so big, it fits a kitchen garbage can). It was SO hard to find, and it's SO valuable to me, and it can get lost easily, that I bought about 12 of them. And potato-chip-bag clips that actually work. I have enough of them in service; these are packages I bought that I thought I might give as gifts but haven't yet. I may move them to the "Christmas present stash" that's in the box in the bottom of my closet, and then I'll have them to give as presents to all the cousins when it's time. I have the magnetic strips that came w/ the room-darkening curtains that I've been too lazy to install. I probably won't ever install them, but I'm chicken to toss them. I actually *DO* have a place for them--the closet is a triangle, right? So when I set the plastic 3-drawer unit in it, there's a triangle of space behind it. I've cut a shelf out of foam board to sit on top, to keep stuff from falling in there. So there's this void back there--difficult to access. I put them in there. I also put most of the Band-Its in there--all but 3. AND, to keep myself from forgetting they're there, I wrote a note on an index card (w/ an arrow) and stuck it to the wall. Silly, but I feel relieved at not throwing them out.

We get VERY little junk mail. I signed up to be on the Direct Mail Association's Do Not Mail list years ago. Here's what to do: 1) Save the labels off your junk mail. If you get a lot of junk mail, you should have quite a stack. I also save any labels for previous owners that come my way. 2) Once you've got a bunch, write a letter to: Mail Preference Service Direct Marketing Association PO Box 643 Carmel, NY 10512 Dear Mail Preference Association, Please remove the following names from direct mail lists: "Put the addresses from your junk mail labels here. If you look at them closely, there will be variations on your address. Include each variation, e.g. Firstname Lastname, Mrs. Lastname, Ms. Firstname Lastname, F. Lastname... you get the idea> Sincerely, Firstname Lastname 3) Save the letter on your computer 4) Print it out, sign it, and mail it. 5) Repeat as necessary... your junk mail won't cease immediately, but within six months you should notice a dramatic dropoff. When you first get started, you'll be doing this every few months, but now I drop a letter into the mail every year or so with the addresses from the FEW pieces of junk mail we get.

Could you hang spice rack horizontal from ceiling and hang stuff like dried flowers from it?

Oooooh, I like that idea. I dry Sweet Annie all the time, so maybe I could use it for that. But now that you gave me the idea of hanging it like that, it might open up other ideas for me also.

That's creative! I think I'd rather do that than the wind chime. I almost didn't buy them, but then I thought, what the heck. I seem to have a lot of what-the-heck purchases! I can always count on GWeb members to help me come up with something to make, though. I better get busy and do something with them.....
