Places to visit in Charlotte NC.

Hi,

I (along with the family) am planning vacation in Charlotte area NC during last week of August. Which are the interesting places to visit -- like botanical gardens, green houses, water parks, family type engagements/attractions, mini golf etc.

Also which is the best city/ suburb place to stay(hotels)? That is peaceful and quite.

Any advice/suggestion welcome. Thanks in advance.

I am glad to find Rountree well liked when I saw this old thread. I have been checking out like every greenhouse in charlotte and they have really impressed me. Aside from Rountree, I also love Campbell's Greenhouse on South blvd. It is in South End just below East; next to the Mr K's soda shoppe & the Chipotle, so it is very very convenient if you live or work in uptown. It looks like a tiny place on the outside but there is a nice long greenhouse stuffed full of beautifully cared for orchids and houseplants and vines, and then an outdoor area behind with lots of good stuff. A much smaller operation than Rountree, I have only ever seen 4 or 5 people there, but they have chatted with me a lot and answered all my questions until I was always comfortable. Every house plant I have purchased there is still lush and healthy. So I frequent them too.

Visiting Raleigh, NC - where to visit??

I live in Sanford about 30 miles from Raleigh, but I'm not very familiar with what is up there. You might try asking the same question on the Carolina Gardening Forum. There are quite a few folks who post there who are familiar with that area. It's too bad you aren't coming in June or July. That's when Holly Hill Daylily and Crinum Farm is open to the public. Glad you had a great trip Annie!!!! I rarely used the heat when I lived in Fl and usually at Christmas we were still running the AC. I had friends that did not use their AC but the humidity bothers my allergies. Here in SE GA we do have some colder weather so we use the heat set at 65 about 3 months of the year. We easily have about 3 to 4 months that we use nothing and I really like that. It has been so hot lately that I have been really fond of my AC. I grew up in the south with no AC and we had fireplaces and wood burning heaters. I remember being so sleepy after lunch in schoolfrom the heat. Several times during school it would be so cold that I didn't take my coat off all day.
