The only thing I've done with them is that I put big plastic bows on them and pile them in a Santa wagon I put on my front patio at Christmas. They look like Christmas gifts and don't get messed up in the wind, rain or snow at Christmas. Mine are big tins (like the ones pre-popped popcorn comes in. Oh, I've also seen where people cut them up with tin snips and use the colorful pieces to cover things like a photo frame or the frame of a mirror or bulletin board. Be careful, of course, because the edges are really sharp when you cut them up. Deb, to keep it from rusting, spray it with clear spray paint. You could clean the rust that it has, with some steel wool. Most of us like rust, and would THEN spray with clear, to keep it in good condition. I have had one about half done for a long time--maybe with this post I can be inspired to finish it...... I bought sardine cans for the feet---My cats loved the sardines-LOL

Try eBay ... You're correct that Simplicity has discontinued the adult sized Tin Man, but eBay has a wealth of patterns available. (For some reason, though, Simplicity kept the toddler and child sized Wizard of Oz costume patterns, but only kept the female adult ones - Dorothy and the 2 witches.) DonnaR/CA

I saw one at our County Fair's scarecrow contest. They had used the metal ductwork for the torso, shoulders & (for lack of a better word-thighs & attached flexible dryer vent hose, for the arms & legs so they'd be able to dangle tin cans from them. The wood framework was shaped like a cross with the crossbar at shoulders-longer than the one at the 'thigh' area. I believe they used a silver milk pail for the head.
