River Rock

I am getting married in a few months (August 18th) and I am using a polished black river rock down the center of the tables. As a result I am going to have 100 lbs of rocks to do "something" with. I haven't been able to find lamps that I like for the new house so I thought about maybe putting the rocks in a clear, tall vase and making them into lamps. Have any other ideas though? I'm gussing it's not going to take 100 lbs of rocks for two bedside lamps haha I'm also going to have a boatload of lavender silk flowers. Could I maybe use some sort of clear tubing to make free standing column lights (with flowers and twinkle lights inside) as a patio light?

that sounds gorgeous with the clear tubing....Ive seen clear acrylic tubes somewhere but cant remember where...but i did find something online check out the link below

if you have left over rocks...maybe stepping stones going to your patio....me and my kids did stepping stones using concrete, a pizza box and marbles

Sounds like a beautiful tablescape you are creating.

Do you mosaic? You can google "pebble mosaic" and come up with some really great ideas too~ If your stuck...send them to me!!

(ps. put a raw egg in your kitchen window 3 days before your wedding.. it will bring good weather!!.. I worked for me!... rained day before and day after.. but not on wedding day!)

We get this question all the time about sealing or enhancing decorative ground cover rock in order to bring out the vibrant colors and whatnot. While many people do have success, masonry and stone sealers (or whatever you use) will work best on larger profile stone and rock like boulders and flagstones. When it comes to the smaller ground cover rocks like beach pebble, it becomes a bit tedious to evenly cover all the rock. If you spray the area, you will only be covering one side of the stones. You will find that as time goes on, many stones will be kicked/pushed/swept/generally moved and the un-sealed side will show. Just something to consider if you are trying to cover a large area. Looking into polished pebbles might be a good route. Although significantly more expensive than unpolished stone, you would be eliminating the need to purchase, apply, and maintain sealers. Polished pebbles are already looking colorful and shiny. Hope this helps someone out there!

I thought about using this product, but my brick cleaned nicely using TSP and a scrub brush and my fireplace is huge - this would have cost a fortune to do a 10' wide floor to ceiling space. Don't worry about the tree roots. Unless the rocks are piled around the tree trunk very deeply, they do not hinder water penetration and tree roots extend out a significant distance from the tree base anyway. Likely the rocks cover only a very small portion of the root system. Unless you wish to give them away again, I'd consider something like a dry stream bed if it fits into the garden design. While a dry stream bed may direct water/rain runoff during heavy weather, it is NOT a rain garden. Rain gardens are intended to slow runoff and allow it to be reabsorbed into the ground before hitting the storm drain system and that requires a special type of rain garden soil, not rocks.

Those kind of rocks aren't going to be found anywhere near Mobile. You're going to have to contact quarries in the 'upcountry' and find out what landscapers they've worked with for similar projects. It's going to be big $$$. I remember many years ago, an episode of This Old House in rocky New England where a couple wanted a huge boulder to finish off their garden. Even up there, it was many thousands of dollars.

River Rocks are wonderful heated in hot water and used for a massage. Google river rock massage. Perhaps give some away with instructions for massage. I have a hot rock heating unit and we love it. The small pebbles are great to place between the toes and use the larger ones for a foot massage. Congratulations on the up coming wedding

Go to Goodwill or thrift shop - find lamps - glue rocks to lamps and grout--real easy. Or a table top for the garden?

Do you have an Ikea near you? If not you can buy online.
They have a ton of glass and acrylic options.
MichaelsÂ would be a good place to look also.

We played for a wedding recently. At the table for guests to sign in... they had a big group of river rocks... and magic markers. Guests were encouraged to sign a rock.. and add to their "Garden of wedding memories." Many folks had room to write a few good wishes. It was nice. I assume that the couple then put the stones as an edge to their garden.
