I got this book for a quarter at a yardsale...its called clever crafting flea market finds here are a couple of neat ideas....if you see one you like let me know and I will type out the instructions for ya...

the first is a bed head board and foot board quilt rack

the second is made from those old wooden indoor clothes racks

and my favorite is the pedestal towel rack how cute would that be in a kitchen or even a bath!!!(just change the silver ware to maybe crystal knobs some thing like that!

I love all of those. Looks like it's a great book. I especially like the towel rack. Wish I had a bigger bathroom! ha Very cute. ~Anj

I have a ton! I have used nautical Christmas ornaments to decorate a welcoming wreath for the door, welcome signs and to use as decorating accessories around the house....knobs on top of lamps, thrown in with potpourri, as refrig magnets, napkin rings and as the ends curtain rods. I have used oars to hang window toppers from.,,,,and another to hang a long,bed-cuddle pillowed(covered) along the wall for a padded rest for the bottom bunkbed. I wrapped a metal bunkbed with rope. I have cast the kids footprints in lakesand to hang on the walls. I used an old boat hull for the main part of a "bar"...and used a plastic maidenhead on it and drilled it and stuffed lights into it(it's cool). Found it on a website for Nautical stuff......there are TONS of sites if you do a search. I have painted old furniture and sanded off the edges to make them all go together......they are mismatched except for the color of paint and the rubbed off corners to show a white undercoat. I did use different nautical things for any knobs that I had to replace. One room I did rope knots, one I used some fishing bobbers, and another more ornaments.(watch for sales during the Christmas season....you can find them CHEAP!). I also used rope to circle around a mirror with a knot at the bottom....and used some to wrap around a lampshade. In one room, I hung fishnets over and off to one side on the curtains and hung fishing lures in the nets. I also bought calendars of boats and lake scenes to frame....also bllew up tons of pictures of us enjoying the cabin over the years on the computer and framed them....great to see how everyone has enjoyed the lake and grown over the years!! I bought old picture frames from resale shops and painted them......they look great all different, but the same color. I used old driftwood(after spraying and drying out in the sun for a long time...worried about bugs) to hang from the ceiling to hang pots from....with a smaller piece of net on one corner. I have bought remnants of carpet, painted it in squares and made fish bean bags to use for tic-tc-toe. Other remnants I have painted on for outside the doors......cheap and can be thrown away each year for a change. I have an old fishing basket for the odds and ends in my bathroom. I have tons of other things I have done, and tons of things I want to try still. My best advice is to go to "junk" stores around lake or waterfront. They have so many cool things that you can use and if you pick through them all, you will find some great bargains. SInce your cabin is more rustic than "lakey"....maybe more twig crafts......more natural stuff like log stump coffee tables or at least for the pedestal part. Use twigs to frame art and/or your furniture....to hang hooks from for coats..... I wish you luck......and tons of fun. It can be so exciting to take a theme and go with it.....let your imagination take you away!!!!! Julie

Bring home several samples and tape them to the wall and see what you think. I think white will be too stark. I would go with a cream. You may need a yellow cream or a blue cream. Depends of the rest of the colors. I would do something fairly plain as your countertops have lots of movement. I am sure Beth will ring in with some awesome ideas!! She has a world of them!

@ SapphireStitch While it would be nice to wave a magic wand with an unlimited checkbook - I don't have that. I do have access to some money (got a HELOC). If some of the changes need to be done in stages and can be done effectively - we can do that, because the more money I have to pull upfront from the HELOC, the more I'll end up paying in interest. (yuck). I'm also not averse to acting as my own general contractor/project manager, if needed; I've done that before (successfully) But I'd rather not have to overall manage the project, just because my current employment is a boatload more demanding than my previous employment. The nice thing is that we don't have a defined deadline where "this must be done by" - no one is getting married, boatloads of relatives aren't coming to visit, etc. However, the kitchen as it currently stands is a source of daily irritation. We're getting to the point that if anyone is already in the kitchen, we try to avoid going in there until that person has left the kitchen. Tempers flare....we've got my boyfriend (who was envisioning a quiet, child-free retirement), my teenager (while she's not as much of a drama queen as some teens - she's just starting the teenage years, LOL), and me - frustrated as the primary food purchaser, preparer, organizer, clean-up person. And if my boyfriend happens to suddenly realize his blood sugar has dropped - get the hell out of the way in the kitchen. He's not very good at listening to his body - he literally passed out one time when his blood sugar dropped too low - he dashed into the kitchen, grabbed a glucerna and the last thing he remembered was opening it up - but he woke up on the floor sitting in a puddle of the stuff. (I wasn't home at the time). When either I or my teen are in the kitchen and if boyfriend does the mad dash into the kitchen - we pretty much have to drop what we are doing so he can grab something and while he stands there and he starts shoveling whatever down his throat. And since the space is so tight - it can mean leaving stuff cooking on the stove, etc. One time he dashed in, grabbed a breakfast sandwich out of the refrigerator, yanked what was already cooking in the microwave out, and threw his sandwich in. Anyhow, I digress. I know that some of the things we want are going to be big-ticket items - new cabinets, granite or quartzite countertops, slide-in induction stove. That's why I'm also looking for cost-efficient plans, such as instead of moving the sink to the middle of the room, let's keep it on the same wall and just shorten the distance from the hot water heater to the new sink location. Let's not blow out any of the exterior walls, and we can keep the current windows, dishwasher, and refrigerator. If replacing the 10'x13' current laminate would be cheapest to match new hardwood to the existing hardwood, rather than ripping it all out and putting tile down in a 20'x13' space, I'm fine keeping hardwood. If a nice, medium-stain maple cabinet is cheaper than white painted cabinets, I'm find with the the stained version... I prefer it, personally. Rather than a huge pantry cabinet, if building a pantry closet with adjustable shelves is cheaper, I'm fine with that (plus with all the small appliances and bulk-purchases from Costco and BJ's - I think it would suit our storage needs better). If getting an island fits the layout, but is out of reach - I'm fine holding off on installing island cabinets and countertop and using a kitchen table in the meantime. And because we don't have a "get it done by" date... once I have a really solid design/layout... I have the time to shop different cabinet lines and stoves, wait for sales and then to be ready to capitalize on hopefully a decent deal. I don't know if it's true, but I did see some articles that indicate the best time to shop for kitchen cabinets is November to early January.

worth getting these are only 3 of the 50 that are in there...the other cool thing was the drawer ottoman they added legs and a piece of wood then made a soft cover very neat and cheap!

This is a great book for sure. I don't know if you should be posting photos, or offering instructions here since the book is still being sold elsewhere. It may be copyright infringement??

Mojo, you might not 'LOL' if you go to the Leisure Arts site and 'read' the FAQ. IF they should see this thread and your post...it could get nasty for this forum. Information about pictures and copyright info is about 3-4 down on the FAQ page.

wired you need to police someone else...this is the third time you have commented on my posts (and not the three on this)....

Now did you notice a ton of people post there web pages on here?.......or are you to busy watching me?...am i advertising no...they have a choice to click my link or not...I go to tons of links that people have here...and I enjoy each and everyone...now as far as my page...will someone from here buy my stuff NO... they can make it themselves..hence trash to treasure site...

Im trying to take it as a compliment with you following me on here for the past couple of months but it is getting old...and I was thinking the same as robo... if they buy the book they will be able to get 50 more ideas....and this book will not disappoint as so many others I personally have bought....

There is a lot of advertising from lots of people here and other forums, and you are right in saying most won't buy, because we are making it ourselves. It's not brain surgery for sure.

I too, (I wanna pull a jersey and say what I really feel but I will keep it nice), but I have just as much right to post as you do. Atleast I don't post to advertise my site, nor do I post information that is 'borrowed' just to generate traffic to my site.

You might want to 'practice what you preach'.

Robolady. Those are neat project pages. Funny thing happened, I was flipping pages to see your favorites and my receipt fell out. I bought this 7-8-02 @ Books a Million for $19.95 less 10% + tax. Who did you order from? I hope the Amazon or Leisure art links helps those interested in this book. It's hard to believe the book today is almost what I paid five years ago! So Mojo really got a deal on hers for sure.

Humm, pg. 56 caught my eye for a jewelry display case for shows or home parties. Instead of the dolls. There's too many favorites to list, now to find all the 'ingredients' to make them :-)
