Are there any good T to T magazines ?

The reason I asked is ..... I got a really cheap subscription (on special for 8 issues for $5 ) to Better Homes and Gardens Magazine. OMG ..... this is TOTALLY NOT ME. I hate seeing houses that are so perfect ... ugh !

Is there a magazine for us people that like to decorate on a shoestring and have a house that looks lived in ????

Now there's an idea. Maybe we all should start one!
The trouble would be finding advertisers. They like to put their ads in publications that show how to use their products. I suppose we could talk the liquor people into it, lol. Or coffee!
Have you ever seen Ready Made? I used to enjoy it but they kept making remarks about how this isn't your mothers what ever and other kind of ageist stuff and I just got sick of it. Too bad cuz a lot of the articles are very good. How to re use, make chairs out of pallets for example. I wrote them a letter explaining that is why i didn't renew my subscription (I was nice about it) but I still get their on line newsletter. It occured to much later that they may have printed my letter which I actually didn't intend so I hope not.

I was just thinking the same thing today while I was looking at WalMart's selection of magazines - probably 10 related to Scrapbooking and not a DARN ONE having to do with T to T!

Thanks Judith and More to grow, I never use chicken wire for chickens....lol! It would never hold up to varmints. My run is covered with utility wire (12 guage), and then covered with 1/2" hardware cloth. I do use chicken wire around my garden, only to keep out the bunnies. I mostly use the chicken wire to protect my trees from bunnies and deer. But all the stuff I'm seeing out there is like aluminum foil......it's totally too flimsy. And sometimes the chicken wire I use around my garden lasts forever, and sometimes it rusts in one year. Seems like the way they make chicken wire is very inconsistent. Hmmmmm....stucco wire? I'll have to look into that. I do use concrete reinforcing wire for tomato cages......but it's pretty substantial, with 6x6" holes.

Wow, where was I when you needed me in August Ã¢ÂÂeh ? This is another I acquired this year. This time from Naylor. As Guacamole Don indicated, Naylor is the only vendor actively selling it. It is a Don Dean blue hybrid. A cross of the white-backed form of H. longipes var. latifolia x H. 'Dorset Blue'. Don Dean is notorious for producing some of the best blues, which was largely the appeal when deciding to buy it. It came to me small back in spring. One of the most noticeable characteristics about it is the Ã¢ÂÂhaloÃ¢ÂÂ that Gary describes on his website listing. The edge is not variegated, but holds slightly less wax and makes it look like you took a highlighter to the edge. It is a soft yellowish hue. The leaves definitely Ã¢ÂÂglowÃ¢ÂÂ when you look at them. I noticed the Ã¢ÂÂhaloÃ¢ÂÂ after it first emerged, but unfortunately it got hit with aphids shortly thereafter and the soap I used washed some of the wax off. This is a very sturdy plant. The leaves are thick and held on top of strong petioles. It grew well for me despite all the rain and constant humidity. Mine is still super young and has some serious growing up to do, but this is another I would highly recommend if you can justify the inflated cost. I attribute that largely to limited supply and how new the cultivar is. As someone who "dabbles" with photography, I always find the "how-tos" interesting. Selling New York is always interesting to watch as well - they have shown the photographers staging and shooting properties, and I really got a glimpse into how difficult and exacting it can be. WOW. awm03 - this is off-topic, but you mention mall lighting, and I continue to wonder why the larger department stores in my local mall haven't figured out how to light their dressing rooms better. GAP and TJ Maxx have figured it out. Their dressing room lighting is always flattering. I'm more inclined to buy clothing when the dressing room lights DON'T make my skin look green.

I have a golden delicious which is a good pollinator but the warm up last year and this year caused the buds to swell and then it was followed by an artic blast with the addition of high winds which killed the flower buds. There were now flowers on the fuji last year and I think the same thing has happened this year. I just read that the cherry blossoms in Washington DC where damaged from the cold too. Local peach tree growers were trying to save some of the peaches by burning barrels of wood in the orchards like they sometimes do in Florida with the orange trees.

Yep - beading and scrapbooking . That's about all I see . The few craft magazines I look at have mostly "kids crafts" in them . We need a good T to T magazine !

I love Country Living magazine. They often feature homes with mismatched second hand or antique furniture. They also have an interesting "steal this" feature where they tell you how the homeowner made something or what you could use to achieve the same look. A lot of the homes featured use curb finds, garage sale treasures and flea market pieces.

Another favorite is Do It Yourself. They have some great ideas for repurposing things and restyling furniture and home decor items.

But I think a lot of people will be happy to find Flea Market Style magazine when it starts publication. It is the brain child of Ki Nassauer who was half of the Junk Market Style book duo with Sue Whitney until they went their separate ways. Sue Whitney retained the Junk Market Style name and Ki Nassauer is creating a Junk Revolution. The magazine should be released in early spring 2010.
