how to resurface table

We have an oval kitchen table that is the exact right size for us. Chair are comfortable. Only problem is that there are lots of signficant scratches on my husband sides.

A lot of the questions are what to do for everyday, versus if we have guests.

For everyday, it would be cool if there was a very cheap, very easy way to redo the top of the table. I was thinking of decoupage of some of our favorite pictures. Guess it would take lots of decoupage medium. Has Anyone tried something similar? Right how the whole table is white. We put tablecloths on when people are visiting, but we would prefer something else for everyday,

For the rest of the table, I was think of a Rustoleum white glossy. Do you think that would work (adhere) to the melamine-like top> Thanks Any suggsetions would be appreciated.

Yes, decoupage would work, but I think I would put a piece of glass over it, because I would worry about ruining all your hard work because of using it. But then again, if there is glass on it, it wouldn't be practical for everyday use.

Or, my favorite would be to mosiac it with broken dishes, tile, etc. That would defintely be surdy for everyday use.

Yes, you can spray paint it, but if it's slick, I would scuff it with sandpaper a bit first, and maybe give it a coat of primer first.

hi, well you said the the word cheap a pc. of glass can run what a t.s table and chairs does. sooo i like the rustoleum idea it will last for yrs.
then the top is kinda funny cause it isa open book, a clear table,
you don,t have to look far on www to find these mosaiced , have seen a few on here that were masterpieces, out of scrap glass and tile.
things that are family ties like pics, or pics from mags. that say this is your side and this is hubbys even his fav. food hobbies and yours is one idea for decopage .
i have and need to do more, have decopoged with tissue paper the colors are awesome and free but you can buy all kinds in amazing patterns , I want to used pressed flowers ,or leaves on a surface then overlay with the tissue with bits of flowers in it as the overlay then seal with a very hard poly. spray ,
you just have some choices to make do you want the job of the mosaic or the decopage or ?
I mean i know you are searching for ides and sugestions but also have to think about do you want to get tied up in it or do you want to get it over with and eat .
do a search on here and the web for mosaic tables.
I forget wich one but I was on a site where there was an entire space for decopage awsome stuff . whatever you do most of the top quality poly finishes (don,t use cheap) are available in small cans and spray i have used a small can then over sprayed eliminating any brush strokes .
the base for deco. p can be white glue watered down or wall paper glue both dirt cheap . hmmmm
please respond and tell what you might be willing to do a lot of folks on here to help rick

Yes we did follow all directions. For this large of an area there is a lot of labor because you have to tape and caulk all seams and screws with the Wedi Sealant. Right after the last screw was down the first tile went down. Here is the picture of the completed Wedi surface. You can see we are using the Schluter expansion joints on the edge and through the middle. Double careful not to have cracks. The other thing we did was to pre-place the railing posts directly onto the plywood. I had the railing guy make a 4" plate with welded posts to it. We cut out the wedi board and placed it on the plywood and then wedi taped over the top of it. The plate and bolt heads are just at the level of the top of the 10mm wedi board. After the deck is tiled the railing guy comes over and levels the rail, cuts the post to the right length and welds the railing to the post. The previous rail was attached to the top of the tiles and of course cracked every single one.

Fly, that could be too much firepower. I just used an orbital sander, The dust catcher won't collect all the dust, so do use a mask. Slow, very slow and steady, careful passes with increasing grit is all there is to it. I think I did 100, 150, 220 and stopped there because I wanted a matte finish. It had had the very VERY shiney 80s finish that had gotten pretty scratched up. The color (original Almond, no longer made) was so much brighter and cleaner looking afterward. Agree with GreenD that getting a fabricator to do it may be worth it. But after watching a fabricator resurface, I concluded it was within DIY range for me. It is relevant to add that I am crazy cheap/stubborn. And a while back switched to parttime work and stopped paying folks three times my hourly wage to do things I could do myself. So if it can be DIY, it is usually DIY for me. And I know that is not normal.

How to overlay / resurface my concrete front porch?

We're finishing up a long rehab of a home built in 1965. We also have a concrete porch that needs something! I wanted real brick, and thought we could do it with "thin brick". Turns out we don't have the minimum % of slope. That's a red flag, as we are in MN, and the amount of rain & snow here, plus freeze/thaw cycles could cause any stone or tile work to "pop" if moisture doesn't drain away properly. Last fall we had our old garage floor re-surfaced with new type of product that carries a 15 year warranty. So right now we're waiting on some custom color choices to use on our porch. The company is Valence Coatings out of Minnesota. I think they would have a list of companies using their products. The prep and coating was about $5 sq ft, and has a 15 year warranty. Ok, it looks like you have a sanded finish plaster (those are all the little bumps, bits of sand mixed into the finish), and then some repairs that aren't very well-done. The easiest way to approximate using drywall materials would be to use some "hot mud" - I'd recommend Durabond (higher numbers if you're not used to this work). Add silica sand to your mix and feather out the repairs so they aren't quite so obvious. You'll want to make sure you do a really good job with your tools, because you're not going to be able to fall back on sanding to fix your mistakes. You can use a wet sponge to help feather the edges if necessary. Then, when once it's set up, but not yet dry, wet a rubber float and rub the patch down - this will expose the sand.

Why not try to paint a "tablecloth" on your table. Paint it a color to compliment your kitchen or dining room, and then paint a little scroll border on it. Let it dry and poly it a couple of times.

This would only cost 3-5 dollars in material, and the labor wouldn't be too bad. Might be a fun project.

If you don't like it, you can still decopage right over it.
