Comments (2)No, what I mean is when you open the door (flip up) it closes softly on it's own. So hard to explain!!! This is what I have found so far.. Here is a link that might be useful: rockler...See MoreOpinions on Horizontal Lift-Up Door Upper Cabinets?
Comments (12)I have 4 of them, and I find them very useful. I like the way they look, and the way they open means I can leave them open while cooking certain dishes and just take items from the cabinet as I work (pantry items). They're a great functional choice over a work surface. Two downsides--the hinges take up room inside the cabs and leave certain areas that can't be stuffed with stuff, and I have the Ferrari hinges (plus lots of extras that Ikea gave me when I complained). They do need adjustment and possibly replacement. I, too, have been caught holding a cabinet open with my own little head. mindstorm--is it a straight swap for the Blum Aventos? If you read this, can you provide more detailed information?...See MoreWho has their upper cabinet pulls placed horizontally-Like them?
Comments (26)Being a computer geek (by nature and by profession) and being married to a systems engineering professor who specializes in ergonomics and interface design, my view is that it should be obvious when looking at the cabinet door what will happen when you try to open it. Which is why we never even considered horizontal bar pulls on cabinet doors. In looking at gizmonike's kitchen above, its obvious that the large cabinet door in the upper right of the image is hinged along its left edge (as you face it) and that the door will swing open to that side. If gizmonike had centered horizontal bar pulls, the natural expection of someone approaching the cabinet would be to grab the left end and try to swing the door to the right. Admittedly if it were your kitchen you'd quickly adapt and know to grab the "wrong" end for that particular door, and the number of "new users" being confused by it wouldn't be very high, but to me it seems to be a matter of choosing form (looks better) over function (works slightly less well) that goes against my nature....See MoreHorizontal uppers
Comments (1)I have Blum Aventos bi-fold hinges, (my cabs are custom built) and I've been using them with no problems for 3 years. The cabs are about 36" high though as I understand the hinges can be used up to 42" height. I'm 5' 9" and can easily reach the open doors, but if you're short 2 separate hinges can be better....See More- 13 years ago
