That's looks great! I was skeptical when you asked about using pallets, but it turned out nicely!!

This is a most unfortunate situation and the reason why one has to be cautious about willows. From the sounds of it, now that you've removed the tree, the outlying (detached) root system is sending off shoots to take over a new tree. The removal of the main tree had been a mistake. Ideally, you;d chop it down to a stump and apply round-up heavily and let the poison travel down it's root system and this will kill eventuall kill off the entire tree. Now in trying eradicate the roots, how have you been digging them up? Cutting them where you find them? This leads to more new plants developing where you've cut off the roots. I cannot think of any ways to go about it but to see if you can find each and every shoot, apply Round Up heavily and let the toxin travel through it's root system. When there is evidence that the shoots are dying, then dig the root system out and be careful not to cut them and accidentally create more plants. Sadly this may cause you to dig up your lawn. As for plants growing through the deck, if you can find a way to crawl beneath and install a weed cloth to cut off it's access to sunlight and water, that would kill off any new growth.

I recently got prices for a tub deck on a bunch of different stones. Low end was just over $1,800 and the highest was somewhere over $3,000 but that was for the most expensive piece of Calacatta Gold in the yard. If it helps to know I live in Massachusetts and the stoneyard was in New Hampshire.

In many areas Sweet Autumn clematis (C. terniflora) is invasive and seeds around. I don't think it has a long enough time to ripen seeds well in my area, but I've read numerous times of it causing problems where it's warmer, so you might want to consider other plants or at least research if it creates problems in your area. If you aren't familiar with Clematis on the Web here is their search engine so you can put in the height you want, and/or pruning type, month with bloom (though take months of bloom with a grain of salt since weather has a lot to do with this) and see what pops up. (Anything you don't care or don't know leave blank.) Not all those plants will be available commercially in the US, but many will be by mail order from reputable nurseries such as Hummingbird Farm, Joy Creek, Brushwood, to name my three favorites. Sweet Autumn is vigorous enough that I don't think there are any other clematis that won't have issues trying to not be overwhelmed by it. I'd suggest planting a few more plants that all have similar size, and look for plants that have longer bloom time. For instance, Mikelite blooms fairly fully for at least 4 weeks and perhaps longer for me even though it's only been in the ground 2 seasons. Ville de Lyon is another plant with a long bloom period in my garden. Confetti blooms later than any other type 3 plant in my garden, but you can also look at Mrs. Robert Brydon which blooms in August for me. Hopefully, others will have suggestions for longer-blooming or later-blooming plants.

"Decks are required to be designed to 10lbs/sqft dead load and 40 live. Whether your roof has to meet that depends on where you live. If you live in snowy areas, you'll be fine." - Does not compute. First, you do not figure roof loads the same as deck loads. Live loads on decks move - often in unison - such as dancing to music - which introduces a destructive sine wave like a tsunami into the structure. Second, even roofs in snowy areas on the 47th parallel only require 15# dead load and 30# live/snow load. (St. Louis is only 20# live/snow) For that theory to remotely work, you would need to be in a VERY snowy, ski resort type of area - AND keep the deck shoveled in the winter to compensate for the extra 10# dead load of the deck - unless the original design had already foreseen and allowed for such use. The 50# total design load required for a deck does not fit on a roof designed for only 45# total (35# total St Louis) Even the 3# added by the PliDeck system can overload the design values, creating sagging, or creap, over time - causing puddling - leading to other problems. A roof , as in your example, would also require railings, (waterproofing problem) and may not be as flat/level as it looks like from the ground.

I've made a pallet deck too, it's got so many screws in it, it'll have to be dynomited to get rid of it!lol! (new kid with a toy...power drill!ha!)

We have finally finished the deck. We added another section and I built a dry creek bed along the front. I collect hosta so added a few, First Mate, L. Beach Bum, L. Beach Captain.
The sitting bench I picked up for 5$ on Craigs list.

Aye, The paint dept. at Lowe's (in my area) throw's away a bunch of pallets :-)...So, -How long did it take you to put this all together?
I want one like that! Wonder if I should use dry wall screws and paint it with some deck sealer?
I guess DH will let me do one side of his barn.LOL!!

Great job !!! I love this idea. We can always get free pallettes around town.I think I might want a larger one for the table & chairs outside.

What did you attach the boards to ?? Just 2' x 4's or similiar ?? I'm sure I'll have lots of ???'s ,so if you have some sort of guide,I'd appreciate it.

Thanks to all that liked our deck.
It was strung together with 2x4's. And each corner and in the middle are 4x4's. It is a floating deck. None of the 4x4's are in the ground, they just rest on the ground. Hopefully that way we won't get snagged for extra living space on our taxes.
