Noooooooo! Of course Colonial is a bad thing, LOL!! Not sure why, but that is one of the styles I really, really dislike. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, as when I think of Colonial Secretary, I see this: Flat front and sides, etc. In fact, if this piece would have had a regular flat front and carved feet, rather than the serpentine drawers and ball and claw feet, I likely wouldn't have bought it. I don't mind the hardware being that ever-so-popular Colonial style, as the rest of the "lines" of the piece can go another direction. ('course someone is likely turning over in their graves for all of the desecration and bastardization of style that I carry out!) These were two of my inspiration photos before I started working on it. The painted secretary was my true inspiration, but I realized I could NOT pull off that intricacy in painting, and I'm not a fan of decopage, so I abandoned that idea. The Edwardian Secretary is GORGEOUS with the inlaid wood, and I toyed with painting the drawers and flat fron a different color to mimic the style. Of course I ended up just doing a combination of several things, but I still don't think "Colonial" when I look at my piece, unless, of course I have something in between the scrolls. ;) Here is a link that might be useful: First two secretaries

OMG - what a goofball I am. I have been working so many hours and am so short on sleep - sorry I didn't include the link for the lamp. It would center over the bed, so the art would move. It is a bit on the modern side, but I think might be very cool in your space: giclee retro lamp You can see that they have the shade for sale alone, as well as other styles of the lamp with the shade at the bottom of the page. I like how it picks up your colors, including the taupe/beige squares that echo your bedding and window treatments. Do look at their selection of lamps. Many have free shipping, and they have tons of plug-in wall lamps that don't have to be hardwired to work. Seeing your floor plan, I would be inclined to flip the bed to the opposite wall, and let the dresser be on the wall by the closets. Seems like you could put the dresser a bit to the left on that wall, and still fit in a nice chair in the corner near the window. Thanks for moving the pillow! LOL

I have been absent from GW for quite some time, so I apologize for the delay in responding. Thanks to everyone for the kinds words about the kitchen. It's been nearly a year since it was finished and everything about it has been great. lynn2006 - the pullout with lid is by Rev-a-Shelf. The cabinet itself is custom as are all of the cabinets in the kitchen. Barbarav - I am loving all of my appliances. I particularly love the wall ovens, but really all the appliances are great and I'd do it all again the same way. TrueBlue234 - the cabinets are all new nsuep - the paint in the kitchen is Benjamin Moore November Skies. It's really a beautiful color. The tiles are from Heath, color is Frost I think, they are glossy, not frosted. They match perfectly with the paint and the color variation in the tiles is fantastic.

circuspeanut i'm not sure whether or not I would like the plugmolds. I do know I do not like the existing plus and plates and plan on replacing them. Lutron makes a "stone" finish that blends better so I might go that way. I also want to experiment machining the marble (its fairly soft) and making plug covers. Probably too much time on my hands.... and avoiding the next project(s) windows, deck, siding, master bathroom. The order may be different if you ask my wife. "We" caught the mistake before grouting. The company that supplied the mural has been fantastic and is going to make another one. I sent a hi res photo she will use to lay out out and paint another tile. She really has been great to work with. No problem removing the one tile using a punch and chisel but that will destroy it. I want to be sure I have a replacement before doing that. Unless Bill or someone has some secret they can share, that's the way it will come out

Nice lamp.and the shade is perfect for it.

Wish i got my stuff done as fast.

I took my computor chair apart today to recover it.The chair is perfect in every way, nice high back, arms, adjustable etc.But the cushioning in the seat is worn down after so many years,so i've been using a cushion on it which never stays put,so i decided to re do it.This is after i went out looking for others.Didn't like anything i saw and for the money, this is a better idea.I spent 12.00 for denim fabric, and i got the cushioning at Joann's with a 50% off coupon,so i'll have less than 20.00 tied up in this chair, plus my time and i'll have what i like, and will last me several more years.

I think the denim will hold up a lot better than whats on there now,it has some poly in it.I know because i burnt the top of it with my magnaviewer light,on accident.

I'm sittin on one of dh computor chairs now and i hate it.The back is to short,so if i lean back there is no place to rest my head.

Hope to have my chair done by the weekend.

Ohhh, I love the cigar box lamp Margo. I agree, you set out on a project and poof, it's done. Please don't look in my craft room for unfinished projects, or should I say the "crap room" as a my brother has so eloquently renamed it.
