placement of wall shelves

I'm trying to get some finishing touches on my guest bedroom. Over the queen bed is a good size framed print. I bought two 24" long wall shelves to go on either side of it, for little knick-knacks/pretties, i.e. candles, small framed photos. Should the shelves be at the same height as the bottom of the picture frame? I don't have any other wall shelves in the house so it's hard for me to judge what would look best.

I would put the two shelves on the same side, one approximately 1/3 of the way down the print, the second about 2/3 of the way down, maybe stacking them one directly over the other, but probably not having them overlap completely.

If you go with your plan, then I would do the same, the left one 1/3 of the way down and the right one 2/3 of the way down the print.

The shelves would be on the same wall as the print? Am I understanding that correctly? Cuz I'm not sure you really want any other little knickknacks cluttering up that wall--the good-sized framed print should "own" that space.
Can you post a photo so we can see what kind of space you're working with?
